If " Real Men" Posed In Underwear Ads

Real men have skid-marks.

Seriously who looks at these ads to shop for underwear? Normal clothing magazines just have a small square with a picture of the region in question being covered by the underwear. No airbrushed face, abs, or anything else for that matter. Sure some might have a full body picture here and there but nothing too amazing to get your "why aren't there average joes in here?" bell ringing. No, the majority of people are looking at these magazines to top-off their spank banks with new softcore images until the next edition of Jockey Stuffers and Victoria's Not so Secret Secret, winds up in their mail box only to take the lonely trip from the driveway to the bathroom and then to the trash.

And that's why people give Futurepriest a tough time on here...

Oh, I love it, that's why I encourage it. ;)

Real men don't go into modeling, especially underwear modeling.

Much less do they spend time worrying about what dudes in underwear ads look like.

I do hope you're being sarcastic, as if not you are furthering a lie which sends many boys into the age-old insecurity "Am I a real man or not?"

I agree.  Real men don't go into modeling.  And real men will suck it up and get on with life and do what they're meant to do.

It's a healthy and normal thing for boys to want to be manly, godly men.  If they're wondering if they're real men, then something good is happening.

It's healthy for men to wonder if they're being masculine through their actions. It's unhealthy for men to be insecure about their masculinity because others think it's unmasculine for men to go into modeling. Modeling is a real career and is just as manly as an office job.

I know this serious but I cannot see a discussion of male models without thinking about Zoolander.

That was a funny movie.

For the record, my brother was a model and I have encouraged one of my sons to do it.  I do not have a problem with men having careers in modelling.

Says the guy who shaves his legs?

If one of my brothers or close friends wanted to be a male model, even if they were good looking (which most aren't), I would most certainly make fun at his expense.  Might not be terribly Christian of me, but underwear modeling is most definitely non-masculine.

I do not think that any humans should model underwear.

Since when do you get to decide what is and is not masculine? I've been told I should try to get into modeling, and although those aren't in my current plans, if I were to do it one day, I wouldn't care what you thought.

There's more than one type of modeling.

Conclusion:  Real men don't care about what other men think of them.

The ridiculous thing about the ads are that they try to compare apples to oranges.

Fact is, most of those "real men" posing are VERY attractive, and the models look a bit vapid.  And most women see the men and find them very attractive.

However, when they do this with "real women" it turns into a circus of body shaming and how ugly and fat the women are.

There, perhaps, is a problem with men who have self-esteem and appearance issues, but this isn't the way to do it.  What they are doing is saying "Here!  Look!  This HORRIBLE PROBLEM!  LET US TOSS SOME GORGEOUS (but not ripped) GUYS TO PROVE OUR POINT!"

Yeah, that's so helpful.

The issue is that while femininity is found in the graceful, the pretty, the caring and often in the way a woman carries herself, masculinity is often in what a man does.  He is provider, protector and strength.  All of those pictures STILL show a man in his prime, quite virile looking and showing socitial strength.

The issue is that that femininity has been reduced to the image, and while men still may look at a model and compare themselves, they have other ways that they are seen that are very attractive.  Look at "Sheldon" from Big Bang.  Even tho the man who plays the character is gay, many women find him sexually attractive and desirable.

This Ad campaign would only be enlightening if the real men were really different than the muscled counterparts.  Older men, those who are actually overweight, those who have been workign with their hands in the sun.

All they did was take sculpted models and replace them with decent looking guys and pose them sexy.  They are still all quite attractive.
