Declaring that the devil has departed from the Church of England’s baptism service, the Guardian reported on June 20 that “a simplified baptism which omits mention of the devil” is now favored by the clergy who have test-marketed it throughout the United Kingdom. Claiming that the traditional rejection of the devil and all rebellion against God “put off people who are offended to be addressed as sinners,” clergy claimed that they found it much easier to ask parents and godparents to make vows that do not mention Satan.

I thought this had to be satire until I read that whole article.  Wow!

On the plus side, I can see this leading to more Anglican rite Catholics.

Men don't believe in the Devil now, as their fathers used to do;
They've forced the door of the broadest creed to let his majesty through.
There isn't a print of his cloven foot or fiery dart from his brow
To be found on earth or air today, for the world has voted it so....

Well, the parish here in Calgary that converted is absolutely excellent, so anything that leads to more of them gets my support. ;)

Credo in Deum

I hear they haven't stopped there.  They have plans to do the same to the Bible and all artwork depicting Biblical events.

An example of what these edited works will look like was leaked to the public.

Rather ridiculous, but as long as they're baptising with the Trinitarian formula, it's still baptism.

Just another example of how the Anglican/Episcopalian churches needs our prayers.

I am disturbed by this, but not surprised. As Fr. Ripperger has said, the devil is not under every rock...he is under every other rock. And we are trying to bring back the St. Michael prayer in my parish, even if it's just after the rosary...

The parish where I most often attend daily OF does the St. Michael prayer with the Mass.  Where I go for the EF on Sundays does it after the Rosary, before Mass.  (It is a Missa cantata so it wouldn't go with the Mass.)

That is a great prayer.  Good for you for trying to revive it.

What an "interesting" era we live in.. don't we learn anything! Look what happened to Israel when they compromised with the heathens of  old!

The Devil is that part of the psyche that urges us towards what is against reason... err... yea...

CCC : 1237 Since Baptism signifies liberation from sin and from its instigator the devil, one or more exorcisms are pronounced over the candidate. The celebrant then anoints him with the oil of catechumens, or lays his hands on him, and he explicitly renounces Satan. Thus prepared, he is able to confess the faith of the Church, to which he will be "entrusted" by Baptism.39

The probably best deception of Satan, father of liars, is to convince that it does not exist - read something like this more than once.

Well said indeed!  I have a statue of St Michael, Archangel, on top of the wardrobe facing my bed.
