So as I was choosing which book to be my challenge book for summer reading, I've come down to two; but can't make a decision which one. The two are both by Pope Benedict XVI;  Theological Highlights of Vatican II and the Spirit of the Liturgy http://www.amazon.com/dp/080914610X/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3BJOWI8Y5XQFW&coliid=I1UKQ83YND9IRX

Which one would you choose and why? If you've read them, care to give a rating?

I have Spirit of the Liturgy which I like.  I have not read the other.  Theological Highlights was originally in published in 1966.  Joseph Ratzinger's thinking shifted a fair bit over the years, so the liturgy book will give more insight into how he thought when he was pope.

I should have said the date for Spirit of the Liturgy too.  It was first published (in German) in 2000.  So it is going to be closer to Pope Benedict's views during his papacy than a book written in the 60s.

Had to read both for school this year. Didn't care for either one.

I think that Spirit of the Liturgy would have more appeal for people who are more traditionally inclined than you seem to be.

Nihil Obstat

I liked Spirit of the Liturgy a lot. Have not read the other one you mentioned.

It was rarely dense like some other books on the liturgy can be.

Thanks. I'll think I'll have to go with Spirit  of the Liturgy. I'm really glad to hear its more on the traditionally side.

After reading one of the Amazon reviews of the Theological highlights of Vatican II:

"The primacy of love overcomes doctrinal doubts" (Opening of the Session p. 201) we stand a chance of demonstrating to the doubtful world the True Faith, empowered by the Holy Spirit, brought together by the unity of love, without unnesessary conformity, in particular liturgical practices."

Kinda got scared
