Father Hugh - Prostate Cancer And Dvt

I've been trying to meet with a particular Carmelite  priest named Father Hugh for several weeks but he has had to reschedule several times. I didn't mind because I assumed he had other duties but I was really looking forward to meeting with him tomorrow finally and having a chat. Tonight he phoned to reschedule again and he apologized profusely for doing so, but then he explained to me that two months ago he had an operation for prostate cancer, and had chemo and radiotherapy and sometimes he has had to go see his doctor unexpectedly.

 

Well, on Friday he saw his doctor again, who also diagnosed him with DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and now he has to go in for an injection tomorrow at the time we were supposed to meet, then he has to conduct a funeral Mass after that. What was so incredibly sweet is that he was worried about me! He asked if he could squeeze in our meeting after the funeral. I told him that he mustn't worry about me, his day sounded long enough and he would probably find that he needed to rest after the funeral. I said it was no inconvenience to me to wait until it was more convenient for him -- so we rescheduled for later in the week. I haven't met Father Hugh yet, but already I am so impressed by our phone conversations and how much he thinks about others.

 

So I think it would be so nice if a lot of people could pray for him - that God give him the grace and strength and comfort he needs to cope with whatever is going to happen, because he is ministering to the needs of so many others even while he needs a little support for himself.
