Not The Philosopher
Well, it went well, aside from briefly disillusioning my view of my spiritual director. He turned out to be a non-clinker?
PhuturePriest
He turned out to be a non-clinker? It's a long story, really. I got there 40 minutes early, but the 2 other altar servers didn't arrive, so Father didn't know what to do. I, however, scanned the pews, and immediately recognized a seminarian from a neighboring diocese who I know, so I recruited him and his brother to help us. However, in the last 7 or so minutes before Mass started, the other altar servers arrived and expected to serve. This caused us to be late in starting Mass, as Father spent a good 4 minutes scolding them and telling them how irresponsible it is for them to have been late. All of which is totally reasonable, right? Well, except for they were both really young. The oldest one was about 13, and his sister had to be 8 or 9. So not only was he scolding them to the degree that it was completely inappropriate, but it wasn't even their fault, as their parents drove them. It continued, however, even during Mass itself. Before the Gospel, he whispered to me "Thurible." He had briefly mentioned before Mass that sometime around the Gospel, I had to add another coal to the thurible so it didn't burn out. But in this instance, he meant for me to get it, but I thought he wanted me to add a coal, so I was spending a minute in the sacristy putting another coal in when suddenly the seminarian came in to tell me Father wanted me to bring it out, and when I got out Father was really pissed that I delayed the Mass. It doesn't bother me so much that he got angry at me, really. I don't like it when people yell, as it's simply not in my nature to even raise my voice, but I specifically don't like it when other people are mistreated, so for the first half of the Mass I couldn't even focus because I was so angry he yelled at those kids. I'm amazed he didn't see the irony in getting mad at all of us for delaying things when he wasted 4 minutes yelling at kids for something that wasn't their fault. PhuturePriest
Everyone has their bad days, FP. If you become a priest you too will have them. There's a difference between a bad day and yelling at an 8 year old girl. He was calm and happy after Mass, but he didn't apologize. It would have been fine if he just apologized. Holding on to it is not going to help anyone.

Holding on to it is not going to help anyone. I've known him long enough that I don't think he'll think this is worthy of apologizing for, honestly. He gets in trouble in parishes all the time because he's a very strong-headed person and doesn't feel the need to apologize for much. However, you are right. Though it is angering to see something like that, there is no use in lingering on it other than to remember no one is perfect, even myself, and I have to strive to rise above my natural instincts. Now smile and enjoy your Sunday! Also just think of the times God could have smacked you over the head for being rude. I know God could have justly clubbed me over the head -and then some- for my rudeness.

Catherine Therese
If a thurible bearer (or wielder, depending on who it is) is a thurifer, and a cross-bearer is a crucifer, what is a candle/light bearer?
