blazeingstar
So my cousin X who's 13 is a twin and has a older brother. Older brother is a bit awkward but despite being half-deaf, literally! is very musically talented, just graduated HS and is an EAGLE scout. Counsin's twin is built like a tank, suave, very socially talented and very sports talented. This leads to alot of self-esteem issues for cousin x. He's is skinny, awkward (in almost every way) and a always behind academically. He has a wry sense of humor tho, and likes to post these little videos called vines. (they are like 10 seconds or something). One of his facebook friends the past 3-4 times has taken it upon himself to tell cousin X how stupid, pointless they are or that they suck. Seriously? They are vines. I want to punch this little punk. (good thing I'm 300 miles away). I let my aunt (and uncle, they share a fb) know and told my other cousins (we're all in our late 20's early 30's) to like his vids and post a comment about why. Any other ideas on how to handle this? Perigrina
Is there a reason that Cousin X does not unfriend the critic?

blazeingstar
Because he's a 13yo boy? Not sure... Probably because boys are supposed to be tough...I know the boy is also friends with his twin...and he's also a jock.
blazeingstar
by aunt and uncle do you mean his mom and dad? Yep, his mom has FB and shares it with his dad. It's hard to talk about people not using their names :p
Ash Wednesday
I think it's totally cool to publicly defend your cousin. But honestly, if he's putting the vines up himself and voluntarily has this guy as his facebook friend, he's going to open himself up to comments. There are some Young Adult books that model people dealing successfully with cyber-bullying. Here is an article that suggests some titles: http://www.examiner.com/article/fiction-books-may-help-with-cyber-bullying

PhuturePriest
Honestly, regardless of reading ability and things like that, it sounds like he has a lot going for him. He needs to forget others and realize how much he has and how much worth he has.

His dad is a sports and music guy so he has to work to ensure he makes my cuz feel as valued as his bros. Here is a site with videos, some directed at kids: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/video/advice/cyberbullying Perfect, I'll pass that along Delete the Facebook account. Easier said than done. He's actually pretty good and while some of his vids aren't that great some are a true riot.
Winchester
With normal bullying, humiliating the bully and/or beating the snot out of him is effective. With cyber-bullying of the sort you're describing, I'd recommend using big words and complete earnestness. The appearance of expertise can be gained via google in mere moments. I, for instance, am neither a Catholic nor a human. I'm actually a dog. On the internet, no one knows you're a dog.

Winchester
I might go another route: "Vines are supposed to be stupid and pointless, you stupid mother [mod]the internet is for families--Budge[/mod] [mod]I know, how do you think we get families?--Winchester[/mod][mod]Nice try, you know what I mean--Budge[/mod][mod]I thought you were banned--Winchester[/mod][mod]Shut up--Budge[/mod] they're 10-second long videos. On the internet. The internet." I mean for the cousin to use the above quote. Edited June 27, 2014 by Winchester
