Calling Oneself Catholic While Rejecting Church Teaching

Another possibility is the change we've had at the top. maybe more dissenters feel emboldened, have stopped whispering to themselves that the faith is wrong, got the courage to tell others it is. Although it has been a year and like I said it seems less random than that.

Changes at the top?

Is wanting to be Catholic sufficient condition for actually being Catholic? Or, as in the question I posed a page or two ago, are there conditions under which a person, while desiring to be Catholic, is deprived of communion with the Church?

What I meant by that was, that person would be expressing a desire to love God. In the end, only God knows that person's heart, and He will guide them to the truth, and along the path to holiness. Basically, it's no one else's place to judge whether or not a person is Catholic - that's God's job.

Nihil Obstat

I don't know ... maybe the extent of "organization" is just someone posting a link somewhere. CAF seems possible to me because the presence of these opinions is not such an anomaly over there, and yet there it is dealt with swiftly in that cold, spiritless way that is customary at CAF.

Maybe the National Catholic Reporter linked to us. :hehe:

I am not sure what I think. It feels to me personally that some people have come to embrace a latent heterodoxy rather recently. I dunno. No one in particular whom I would care to talk about. Just kind of a feeling.

But objectively speaking, could a person want to be Catholic and, through some fault of belief, actually be truly separated from the Church?

If someone says the Church teaches X but I disagree and believe Y, that person has separated themselves from the Church.

well I hear that. And honestly recently it has felt like sometimes it is just me holding the line against the dissenting mob on here ... real or not that's been my feeling a couple times ... which I have to say is not something I ever expected to experience at phatmass.

I appreciate it and am relieved when other people step up.

so thank you.

He seems to be polarizing a lot of folk

the whole thing was a brand new experience for the most senior people on down the line ... disruption is to be expected. takes time for everyone to adjust to the new situation.

Is it to be expected? I kinda liked consistency, a solid foundation...

Well, if people are feeling similarly then there may be something that deserves attention.
