Calling Oneself Catholic While Rejecting Church Teaching

No, it's not that. It's that I feel like I'm the only kid on the playground who doesn't fit in and is very unwelcome. It doesn't matter what I say or what I believe. I am not welcome here. And I get that, I'm not Catholic. And you have your little clique.

I don't think I'm smarter, I have my baggage like anyone else. But the moment I express my opinion, both sides descend. It's quite depressing because I'm told this will happen and then I tell them my friends it won't and then it does. :(

What ever man get over it, I just like arguing sometimes for the fun of it, and sometimes I get out of control with it and gota check myself.  Personally I do not have a Clique, I am too busy with dealing with social anxiety to fit into a clique.

No one ever really wins a debate, it just eventually dies off, and maybe some where along the way someone finds the debate informative and helpful and maybe even correct in why a point of view should be changed. Radio people do it all the time, they try to convince people why their side is right and the other side is wrong.

An you don't think you are smarter, I know I am not " smart " least not by any theological or political standard, ask me to dismantle an M16 and put it back together I can beat everyone here hands down.

But to think only Theologians and Clergy are allowed to have opinion on what is being discussed here, forget it, everyone has an opinion who cares if anyone likes yours, don't take it personal, it is just the internet no one here can make up your mind for you, and if we kicked around for opinions, oh well.

Plus just because the Church teaches something doesn't mean we have to like it, we just need to follow it.

Where on earth is all this heterodoxy coming from, all of a sudden? I mean, it makes things interesting for sure, but this is not really why I am here... :P It is kind of unusual for this site anyway.

Between you and me, I have my suspicions that it is organized.

Maybe from CAF. idk.

Seems unlikely to be random.

You seem to be in a nasty hot mood tonight.

No, you don't have to be super intelligent. As has been pointed out recently, one only needs a Catachism, St Joseph's Bible, and a little quiet time to learn more about Catholicism.

If someone challenges you, look it up. The Google is a wonderful tool.

Once that is done, you can still visit here or CAFvand three opinions of hoe you're right, and three on how you're wrong. Either way, you have to comfortable with your choice.

Early in the Catechism, it talks about how God speaks to all souls. Do yourself a favor, look it up and spend a half hour contemplating it. No degree or Catholic ID required.

Do yourself a favor and keep your favor opinions of what I need to do with my life to yourself, I am not in a nasty hot mood by any means, if I were I would make it known.

And you didn't even come close to anything I talked about so keep on keeping on.

Peace out girl scout.

When I first got on here, I found it very overwhelming. It seemed like there was such a clique (because there is), and I wanted to be a part of it so badly, but it seemed impossible to get in. Just do what I did and post a lot, be friendly, don't shy away from debates, and learn. I know it seems like internet debating leads nowhere, but I have grown so much in so many ways that I wouldn't have over the past 2 years had I not gotten involved in it. This website isn't for everyone, and that's why a lot of people leave. But if you really want to be an active member here, just do what I outlined above. If you think sometimes we go overboard (which we do), say so, and more often than not we listen. I'm now a part of the clique, and now I have really good and close friends with people who didn't like me one iota when I first got on here.

Indeed, one of the major factors in internet debates is that oftentimes the debate will have many more readers than contributors.  When we talk, we address not merely the person we are debating, but also the readership.  It is more important - and more persuasive - to limit oneself to addressing the point being contested than to make ad hominems of any kind.  :)

I think if someone calls themself Catholic, then they must want to be Catholic. They wouldn't claim to be Catholic if they didn't want to be. I think that from there, God can bring them to the truth. If you call yourself Catholic, it means that you at least want to try to follow God's teachings to the best of your ability. It doesn't make you perfect, but God doesn't expect us to be perfect. Putting forth that effort to be who God intends you to be is what matters.

Here is a related question which has bearing on this thread: can someone, either without intending to, or in spite of intending not to, place themselves outside of the Church either through their actions or their beliefs?
Because some people seem to be of the opinion that, essentially, you are Catholic if you say you are, period. I reject that idea.

This.

That honestly had not occurred to me. I do not think I agree, but it is an interesting thought. Where do you think it might be coming from? CAF seems unlikely to me.

Is wanting to be Catholic sufficient condition for actually being Catholic? Or, as in the question I posed a page or two ago, are there conditions under which a person, while desiring to be Catholic, is deprived of communion with the Church?

I don't know ... maybe the extent of "organization" is just someone posting a link somewhere. CAF seems possible to me because the presence of these opinions is not such an anomaly over there, and yet there it is dealt with swiftly in that cold, spiritless way that is customary at CAF.

Another possibility is the change we've had at the top. maybe more dissenters feel emboldened, have stopped whispering to themselves that the faith is wrong, got the courage to tell others it is. Although it has been a year and like I said it seems less random than that.
