Bill Donohue comments on news stories claiming that a Connecticut high school has censored the Vatican website:

Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, Connecticut has allegedly implemented a firewall blocking some websites it deems are “politically oriented.” Among those that are blocked is the Vatican’s website. Also blocked are the websites of the National Right to Life, National Rifle Association, Christianity.com, and many others. Websites that are not blocked, apparently because they are not “politically oriented,” include Islam-guide.com, Planned Parenthood, and lgbtqnation.com.

According to a complaining student, Andrew Lampart, a senior, he was told by Jody Ian Goeler, the Superintendent of Schools, that it was necessary to block certain websites in order to “prevent hate-speech from leeching into the school.” Lampart took his complaint to the Board of Education on Monday, and was told that his concerns merit a probe.

This is the direction that things are heading.  I expect to see more and more claims that Catholics are a hate group.

New England has been the heart of Puritan territory since the earliest days of Englishfolk in this country.

I guess some things never change.

Wow.  You haven't ever read anything I've ever said have you?

Next time I tell you the northeast is highly l say the Northeast is highly liberal and intolerant of Christianity/Catholicism you should believe me.  Next time other posters or I speak to how badly we can be treated in the office/school world It'd be good to pay attention.

It "began" a looooong time ago.

Yes, it begins. It is practically the Holocaust.

This is how the Holocaust began.  Jews were demonized.  They were portrayed as a problem.  Society learned to see them as evil people who deserved any mistreatment.  This is a typical pattern in any sort of mass scale persecution.  People have to be able to rationalize genocide before they start killing.

Which is what I have been trying to convey about how Catholics are often treated in the upper North East.  It's not "all ok" up here.  But to most people it's a fluke or not important

I'm sure the left and the media will be outraged at this clear attempt at fascist censorship. I'd hold my breath but I'd rather not die.

Um.  Kind of just deserts.  Conservatives have been extremely active in attempting to remove supposedly lewd and/or irreverent content from schools for a long, long time.  This might be a lesson to all want to be censors that your monster will always rise to bite you.

That being said this is stupid and the Vatican website should not be blocked.  Nor should really any content except for maybe really overt pornography or organizations overtly promoting violence.

The problem is that there is a huge difference between what sexual deviation and porn does to kids (guess what, it's actually studied and it's not good) and what being raised with religious morals does to kids. (which, in most studies is good).

There's also a vast difference for censorship of Elementary and Middle school children (which I generally support) and that of highschoolers (which except for violence and sexual deviation).

I agree that it started a very long time ago.

But we've reached a number of impasses by now.  It's going to be more noticeable to more and more people now.

I am not sure how noticeable it will be.  A very large proportion of the population appears convinced that most Catholic priests sexually abuse children and that Catholics in general are judgmental bigots who have no motive for anything they do other than their hate.  People who have accepted this portrayal will think little of mistreatment of Catholics.

One of the most disturbing aspects is the number of people who are nominally Catholic who participate in this process.

I heard they also banned tweeter and facebook. Fascists.

The generally trend here in the region is not very religion friendly. I'm not too worried about it. Whole "they hated Me, they'll hate you too" bit. The free ride might be over.
