Spem in alium
That late goal by Portugal :( US still had a decent chance of getting through their group though. If they draw Germany, or if Portugal/Ghana draws the US advance. And there's tiebreakers that come into play (goal difference being the first) if none of those things happen. I'd actually really like USA to advance. They seem to play quite fairly, and well. Also wanting Ghana to get through, as I think they've been playing excellently. PhuturePriest
If it's a matter of access, all the games are available free on the web at ESPN3 if you are in the states. Google it and you can see it there. They also have full game replays if you want to see something you missed. I'd actually really like USA to advance. They seem to play quite fairly, and well. I'm trying to decide who to support. :P

chrysostom
Shame to see the Aussies lose when they were a scrappier team than many who are still going forward.
PhuturePriest
Shame to see the Aussies lose when they were a scrappier team than many who are still going forward. Doesn't "scrappy" mean "bad"? Or it at least does where I'm from, anyway.
Spem in alium
Yeah, they're pretty scrappy. And they were apparently picked as the "unluckiest" team in the Cup, so it's not too surprising. Very interested in seeing how Croatia will fare today - Cameroon, too.
chrysostom
"Scrappy" in urban dictionary: "Someone or something that appears dwarfed by a challenge, but more than compensates for seeming inadequacies through will, persistence and heart." http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=scrappy&defid=3166135

It's not used here, really, but it means disorganised, imperfect, sketchy, etc.

PhuturePriest
But of course I did not learn my vocabulary from that site. ahem. What I was taught is that "scrappy" meant disorganized, bad, not a snowball's chance in hell of making accomplishments or moving forward, etc.

It's just not part of our vocab.

It's not in mine, either. :P Nobody usually ever uses it here, but when they do, it's not good. :P
