Ted Bundy's Final Interview

I thought this was interesting considering the weight he places on pornography in developing his transformation into a serial killer. Of course, pornography did not create him as if it was the sole cause, but it certainly aided in him becoming the sociopath we knew him to be.

One of my law school classmates corresponded with Bundy. Interesting guy. Bundy never wanted to admit he was guilty until he thought doing so would prolong his life. Then he still needed something to blame his crimes on.

My later experiences with death row inmates taught me that serial killers all seem to have fantasies they obsess about, and for whatever reason, they eventually act on those fantasies. Doesn't necessarily mean pornography, but I will say that of all the guys I met on death row, all but one was into porn.

I wonder if the proportion of death row inmates who are into porn is any different than that of the general population.

I remember watching that interview a while ago and feeling compassion for Ted afterwards.  I'm not trying to excuse his crimes or minimize them.  I believe he deserved the death penalty for what he had done; however, I couldn't help but think to myself "there but for the grace of God go I."  I like to believe that out of a life of misery, anger, sadness, and suffering, that this interview was the good which God had managed to draw out of Ted's life before he died.   I think Ted's message is edifying and one which shines a light on a real problem in our society.  A problem which is claiming a lot of souls.

I just hope in the end that Ted had perfect contrition for his crimes and gave his punishment to God like the good thief on the cross.

I remember reading the interview and it was astonishing.  I knew pornography was bad but I didn't know that it caused Bundy to become desensitized to the point of committing murder.  It makes me wonder if everyone knew this if they'd think twice about pornography being acceptable because "it doesn't hurt anyone."  I've always found psychology interesting and I wonder if other serial killers had problems with sexual addiction as well?  Obviously not everyone who has a sex addiction would commit murder but it seems like it played a key part in Bundy's criminal record.  :(

That would have been 98%. I certainly hope that isn't the average, but wouldn't be knocked over shocked if it was.

May The Lord have mercy on his soul and may he rest in Peace.  It is as much as I can hope for finally. And may those victimized and affected by his deeds find every consolation in this life.  I personally believe that his direct victims are in Heaven.

Ash Wednesday

I never knew what to make of Bundy's last interview or where his mind was at. But I guess that's for God to know, not us.

To think his association with it came before the days of smartphones and the internet. Porn of all varieties are so much easier for kids to access now.

I'm not quite sure I believe him, watching the interview. There's something telling me he's trying to seem less guilty, somehow. But then again, that's just my reaction from watching his facial expressions and tone of voice, etc.

I'm also shocked at how normal he looks and how well-educated his speech is. I was aware that Bundy was infamous for these things, but wow...

He was studying to be a law student when he committed his first murder.  Obviously, he had a high IQ, but that, unfortunately, couldn't keep him from committing a crime when the poison of pornography and violence took control.  :(

Maybe it's because I believe in the best of people very easily (sometimes too easily), but I found his interview very compelling and heartfelt. What sold me on it was the fact that he kept reiterating that everything he did was consciously done, and that the porn didn't make it to where he didn't have a choice, it simply helped mold his desires that he consciously gave in to. If you watch people like Charles Manson, he'll say that it was all something he couldn't control, and kept trying to justify it. Ted Bundy never did this, and showed (in my opinion) true remorse, particularly at the end when he was asked about the children.

I truly wish he hadn't gotten the death penalty. We need to stop killing people and start trying to actually fix the problem.
