Have you read Rorate Caeli?  :saint2:

There are Catholic bloggers, columnists, and communities out there from all parts of the spectrum. You just have to find a couple you like and read them regularly, and you'll see that it's far from universal adulation of everything the Pope does. :)

Have you? Because it is simply false to say that they are critical of anything coming from the Pope, Vatican, or USCCB.

Ash Wednesday

I do understand I could spend time looking for articles posted by actual Catholic publishers , but in the age of laziness when articles pop up faster in yahoo thumbnails, that is the first thing I go with, I don't really play detective to find a Catholic article for their point of view on the same topic , what ever that may be, and one can also counter argue, that finding a Catholic article on this said piece by the huff post, is just as biased since it is a Catholic or would be a Catholic article, I seriously doubt there are Catholic columnists who are out there being negatively critical of anything the USCCB says or anything the Papacy / Vatican does.  At best they simply report the facts and nothing more.

It's not that hard to bookmark a Catholic news source website... ;-) on blogs and comment sections I've seen a pretty wide variety of opinions about the USCCB and actions of the Pope in the comments sections even among faithful Catholics. Even on here, for that matter...

For what it's worth I read secular news sources all the time, but when they discuss religion and specifically the Church, I do take them with a grain of salt. Sometimes people don't always understand what it means to be a pope, for example, or how the Church works. I don't think all secular media is evil, I think many people that work within these organizations are just somewhat ignorant. (heck so are a lot of Catholics, for that matter) But it is what it is, it's good to see you and others bring these articles to a forum among other Catholics to talk about it. Get both sides of the issue, if nothing else.

I was going to add that, yes, in some circumstances, the USCCB does have to be careful about to what extent they can wade into politics. They are with their rights and duty to fight for the sanctity and dignity of human life -- but on some issues it does become a grey area and many Catholics can and will debate the interpretation of the constitution.

If the USCCB endorsed the ACA (though I don't think they actually can) and a conservative Catholic said "no, I disagree with this, I have concerns about it from a constitutional standpoint" -- I think that's within the conservatives right to do so.

Gosh I hope I'm making sense. I'm actually not on here flapping my gums all that often so take it for what it is.

Of course I have, you post links to them regularly enough. :) I meant that they're a group who will criticize something coming from the USCCB or Pope, where superblue was saying that he couldn't find a publication that would criticize anything said by the USCCB or Pope.

Silly. :)

Where does the USCCB get off on trying to side with anyone on the ACA issue, and more over I have a feeling, if they were to announce to Catholic Republican / Conservatives exactly how they agree with Obama on his healthcare move, but just only want to remove the small part about abortion, the story would change rather fast in wanting to support the USCCB .  When the " fight for religious freedom " started, had the USCCB issued fliers and statements that they support the ACA and only want to remove the part about Abortion, I wouldn't of read any more they had to say on the matter and ignored all requests to write congress or anyone on their behalf.

The USCCB is a cross for catholics to bear.  They are giving the left the rope to eventually hang us with.  Some of this is naivete.  Some don't care.  Others meanwhile are hostile to the Church in a fashion.  Remember there are still a number of Weaklands , Bernadins, Mahoneys, and McCarricks in our leadership and it will take some time to work through that and, God willing, we'll get better leaders in the future. (Not that there aren't some better leaders now than 10 years ago, but their influence.)

I've personally dealt with some of these questionable Cardinals while reporting abuse.  They were a great disapointment.  HR departments at Fortune 500 companies would behave more ethically.  Nevertheless, knowing what I know about these men, I shouldn't have been surprised.

The USCB was 100% behind the passage of Obamacare. It was after they found out what was in it, they were against it. Part of the reason was that the nation's 600 Catholic Hospitals were overburdened by illegal aliens and saw this as a way to help (they were also pushing for amnesty for illegals as well.).

And lets not forget the "nuns" who supported this socialist, anti-Catholic law, as well.

It came as a huge surprise that Obama and his office used them to get what they wanted and the Church did not.

I agree the Church leaders need to fight to empower the people (by spreading the Gospel), not a bloated tyrannical government.
