CrossCuT
Nihil I got to about episode 8 i think before giving up on Aria. It go to the point where there was too much "He is MY boyfriend!" "No he is MINE!!" and then two girls became three girls and they were all fighting over the same guy and there were boobs and things and it just got too goofy for me. :hehe2: I dont generally like the typical anime school kid shows, they all tend to be a bit vapid (as Arfink put it). Toradora was like that as well, but I liked that one for reasons I cant explain haha. I think the next one I am going to try is Attack on Titan which is much darker than what I usually watch but I heard good things about it.
Nihil Obstat
My theory about Toradora is that it is a show that embraced all its cliches, played all of them straight, and executed it so masterfully that you are actually able to take it seriously. Basically, all those elements that normally might be kind of silly or shallow pull together into something more than the sum of its parts. I feel the same way about Aria, although it uses somewhat different cliches just because of its genre.
CrossCuT
I can see your point. I am sure a lot of my objection is due to the fact that I still have little to no experience with anime so I am unfamiliar with the genre as a whole.

I am sure a lot of my objection is due to the fact that I still have little to no experience with anime so I am unfamiliar with the genre as a whole. When I first started watching anime, I intentionally watched a few shows that seemed cliche to me, because I figured that if I'm not familiar with the cliche, I can appreciate it at face value. But that ability did not last long, let me tell you. :hehe:

Well, I hope you like the Game of Thrones approach, where no character is sacred, and anyone, literally anyone, can die a horrible death at any time, with no reason at all, and not a care in the world for your feelings. :P

The titans faces alone just made me shiver...those weird smiling faces with tons of teeth...just creepy!! But i head so many good things about it and my siblings really enjoyed it so I thought Id give it another chance.

There is also an OVA, but it does not advance the plot, and it ends on a weird cliffhanger. Lol.

Selah
You know what's even more annoying? Chi's Sweet Home/New Address has episodes that are two minutes long. It's a kid's anime, but it's so cute and kawaii ^-^ I just wish the episodes were longer -_- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBr6zWuVRoQ Edited June 24, 2014 by Selah
Nihil Obstat
Only 12 episodes in a season! How rude! Pretty common for anime though. In a way I like it. A half-season long show like that tells me that they had a story to tell, they told it, and now they aren't going to drag it on any longer. Look at some excellent western shows like House and The Office. Really good shows, but later seasons are always hit and miss. The reason is that now they don't have a story to tell, and they're still going just for the sake of doing it. With anime, with only a couple exceptions, once the story is over the show is done. Luckily with Aria there is still more story to tell. :proud:

Nihil Obstat
You can always read translations of the light novels, if you're really into it. I did- they're certainly very light reading. I read five or six of them over a week long trip in a boring city.
ThereseMaria
I started (and finished) the show Another today!!! It was not as bad as I thought it was gonna be, honestly. Yeah, it was gory, but not near as bad as everyone makes it sound. Also - The third season of one of my favorite anime shows is coming out this fall. I'm getting excited. And like everyone else, I am really, really hoping it gets better. The second season sucked. It was disappointing... That's pretty much the only thing I can talk about when I'm talking to my anime buddies.... I'm super excited... :D
