tigger60
Tigger- for some reason pedometers don't register my steps. I've tried with a couple and somehow my gait just doesn't work with steps TT what you want for a pedometer is an OMRON PEDOMTER because they will count properly. AnneLine
I've had the same experience as Tigger60, TT... I had tried using the 'usual' pedometers, but the Omrons really do seem to work just in a pocket or a purse. The come with a little tether line and a snap clip, but that clip sometimes fails so I tend to either keep mine in my zipper pocket (a wear a vest a lot of the time taht has a zippered pocket near the hands) or pin it to the inside of a hip pocket. Seems to work well! Here's what mine looks like....
CrossCuT
Ive never owned a pedometer. I dont like something bulky hanging off my pants like that. :( It wouldnt be a bad thing to look into though...I havent in a while.
TheresaThoma
Hmmm I will have to look into that. In the mean time I think I will just stick with my run/walk on the treadmill. I'm also trying to make it to group excerise classes at the local YMCA (we get free passes through my work). Last night it was supposed to be a pilates class but the instructor was sick so they had another instructor do a core workout class with us. I'm really sore now! CrossCuT
After suffering from a severe stiff neck, I got back to my routine and did another run. Its really really really easy to forget how enjoyable running is. I always feel cranky before going, but once Im done I feel very accomplished. I use the 5k Runner App on my iPod. I know I mention this a lot but it really was the thing that got me going. I have never been athletic in my entire life, but this little app helped motivate me. AnneLine
Ive never owned a pedometer. I dont like something bulky hanging off my pantaloons like that. :( It wouldnt be a bad thing to look into though...I havent in a while. You can hang it INSIDE your pants... or just into a pocket. It doesn't have to be obvious or bothersome. A while back some friends and i did a 'walk across the USA' thing where we kept track of the mileage we were accumulating (walking, running, biking, swimming, whatever... each 15 mins counted as a mile for ease of counting if somoene didn't want to wear a pedo....) and then we tracked our Mileage and used Google to give us some idea of the terrain we had traveled as a group over the preceeding week. . Have walked 2x across the USA that way over last few years! Started and got distracted on a walk from San Diego to Maine a while ago... if there is interest, we could do this a s a group... I'm open to doing it for us if there is interest.... it is VERY motivating!
CrossCuT
That would be actually pretty fun! But then it means I need to invest in a pedometer!
AnneLine
well... kinda was our uniform.... but we took people who wanted to just make a reasonable estimate of mileage....
Comingback
I would be interested too. I do better if I'm doing it with people.
CrossCuT
Should we make it an activity for us all? We can be like Chris Traeger
tigger60
Crosscut I just wanted to let you know that they also make what is called a FitBit that is a pedometer that part of it you can have on your wrist and the other part is the computer. I do not know much about these but you can go to any target or Walmart of BestBuy and they can explain it to you. One of my trainers uses it and she loves it. Just an idea.
