chrysostom
http://vultus.stblogs.org/index.php/2014/05/god-hidden-and-unknown/ This is a post from a beautiful little blog I read occasionally. A prior in Ireland visited a nearby farm a day before an auction there. He looked through and found some religious statues. And then: Next to it I saw a monstrance (complete with the lunula), a ciborium, a couple of communion patens, and a tabernacle that looked as if it had been wrenched out of a stone altarpiece or wall. The key was in the tabernacle door. The Discovery Something moved me to open the tabernacle door. I was not prepared for what I saw. There, lying on the stained and mouldy floor of the tabernacle — once lined with immaculate white silk — were a dirty corporal and two Hosts. My sense was that these were consecrated Hosts: the adorable Body of Jesus Christ. Unconsecrated hosts would not have been left lying in a locked tabernacle. He managed to acquire these holy things that day and returned with them to the priory. Reparation At the priory, I called the brethren together. We carried the tabernacle to the sacristy, where I opened it and transferred the Sacred Hosts to a pyx. Accompanied by a brother bearing a lighted candle and by the rest of the community, I went to the Oratory and placed the pyx in the tabernacle. Kneeling, we prayed the Collect of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and made an act of reparation. And then I wept. Would that I could, in some way, make reparation for the irreverence, coldness, and ignorance that surround Our Lord in the Sacrament of His Love! Would that I could preach the surpassing wonder of His Real Presence over the entire length and breadth of this island! I wept too reading it. Lord Jesus, allow me, an unworthy sinner, by the love of my poor heart, to console You when I keep watch before the Sacrament of Your Love, and wherever I go to remain aware of Your presence in the Blessed Sacrament that I might make some small reparation for the offenses committed against You. Help me to live ever in the light of Your Eucharistic Face. Have you ever found Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in a place or a state unfitting for Him? What did you do about it? I pray I never have to see this but I have heard a friend tell of the Lord found between hymnal pages or trampled on the floor of a pew. Jesus, mercy!
Perigrina
Two of my teens were at a school Mass together. My daughter noticed some kid putting the Sacred Host in his pocket. She did not know what to do so she told my son. My son told the kid that was wrong, but they kid would not listen, so eventually my son grabbed the Host away. Then my son took the Host to a trusted teacher. My son could have gotten in a lot of trouble for that, if the school had decided to count it as fighting. (It could happen. The quality of "Catholic" schools is notoriously bad here.) But nothing happened to my children except for their mother being very, very proud of them.
