superblue
Anyone heard of it ? my first attempt was a flop, I am going through the booklet now, and it is giving good stories on how previous saints have had enormous help by Our Blessed Mother, by giving everything they had and entrusting it to Her. I am not really finding anything notable other than just motivational stories, and I am okay, I do feel a bit energized after reading them, I would like to start praying the Rosary more than just once a week, I don't know why I am either lazy too or what at times. But I felt it necessary to try something new, I cant afford to go on a real retreat, so this is the next best thing... I would like to one day get a real Marian book by St. Louis De Montfort / ( might have spelt that wrong ) but I suppose " real " is relative . I am really just wondering if anyone has been through this consecration , what they have taken from it. Any advice. And I am kind of confused, if we are giving Mary everything including our prayers, when we pray to Christ, or are asking others in heaven for help, are those prayers being given to Mary instead ? Credo in Deum
I did my consecration on 03/19/13, the feast day of St. Joseph. The book I used was this one. http://www.amazon.com/Consecration-Mary-Montforts-Preparation-Meditations/dp/0935952446 First, lets get this out of the way. Yes, the book I used was written by a priest from the SSPX and yes I am perfectly fine with that since nothing in the book was contrary to the Catholic Faith. Now moving on to the consecration itself. It is long, hard, challenging, but oh so worth it. Yet the real test of your strength won't be the consecration itself, but rather, the living of the consecration. I quickly found out that I fell into the false devote camp and with my Mom's help, I am trying to maintain a True Devotion to her. Regarding the prayers, how I look at it is we are simply asking that everything we do be offered by the pure and spotless hands of Christ's Mother. We can ask other saints to pray for us, but we still acknowledge that we want even their prayers to first pass through Our Mother before they reach Christ. Don't worry the saints do not have a problem with this. When we ask for something we leave it up to Mary to bring it to God and for her to tell us what her Son wants. This is because her will is in complete conformity with her Son's. When I receive communion I ask Our Blessed Mother to come into my heart and to take Christ in her arms and hold Him like she did when He came down from the cross. MargaretTeresa
I didn't complete my first time going through the 33 Days. Starting it again soon.
PhuturePriest
People at the Catholic bookstore keep looking at me odd whenever I see this book and start laughing out loud. I can't tell them why I think it's so funny, which just makes me laugh more. :P
MissyP89
I consecrated myself to Mary a year and a half ago after many years of avoiding it. I prepared with Montfort's way and this book, but when I actually made the Consecration, I did it in my own words and in a way that was most comfortable for me. I find that you get from it exactly what you put in, nothing more, nothing less. But I can say that my affection and appreciation for Mary has been so improved since then. I'm so glad that I did it. Before you buy any of Montfort's books, you might benefit from knowing you can read them online for free: http://totalconsecration.ageofmary.com/ Remember, Montfort's way is only one way of many, and you can also make your own way. Mary is more concerned with the state of our hearts and our willingness to give ourselves to her and Jesus than the words we use. Good luck to you! Ty, I did finish this consecration, on the Visitation, and realize even though this is an accomplishment it is also a new journey, so even though I may not be feeling much of a change now, just another seed to tend to once it start to sprout. ChristinaTherese
I just started the consecration myself, but I'm considering putting it off for a month or so, so that I'm not starting it during finals. (If I put it off, though, I'll be finishing it in the middle of another term, I think. I'll look at a calendar and see what other dates I could pick to finish. Just... I'd rather start in a couple weeks than start now.)

superblue
I just started the consecration myself, but I'm considering putting it off for a month or so, so that I'm not starting it during finals. (If I put it off, though, I'll be finishing it in the middle of another term, I think. I'll look at a calendar and see what other dates I could pick to finish. Just... I'd rather start in a couple weeks than start now.) The thing I liked about this book is that it isn't so strict that if you miss a few days you failed or have to start over, I was reading it daily an then for some reason at the end I some how either started struggling or I dunno what but I ended up doubling up on the reading, and then I decided to wait till the day before and finish the final week of reading which took like I dunno 20 min at best. Very easy reading , and I found it interesting that nothing is set in stone, it isn't like if you don't make a consecration to Mary in a very specific way then you did it wrong. This book even states to make your own pray if you want to. The hardest part I had if anything was going to confession afterwards, but that is more feelings of being uncomfortable and maybe a tad mixture of scruples some where in there. Any how so i'll probably finish tonight signing the pray card at the end and making some notes in my journal on things in general. And then it is this still trying to understand of okay i had a hard time trying to figure out what God wants of me, now I am going to try an see how it is with the Blessed Mother, and i mean its odd, learning this way of " pondering prayer " yet, still falling into old habits, that are either sinful or just a waste of energy and needless worrying that leads to other things that make life miserable. I have gradually seen in my life the effectiveness in praying, yet still completely feel frustrated and aggravated at times on a number of things that vary, either in my personal life or just in general. And finding that humility to be patient is just as tough as any of this. But I felt i had to try something new when it seems as if i ran out rope trying to understand Christ on my own or pray to Him on my own.
PhuturePriest
oh my goodness (don't blasphemy) Certainly you find the humor in this? I don't want to be the only one.
loveletslive
i've done the consecration using this method and i've also done it the de Montfort way twice. the de montfort one is like a prayer marathon…i failed the first few tries. I think for the first time the 33 days to morning glory would be more efficacious and if I do the consecration again, it would choose 33 days over de montfort. the reflections on/from the saints was so applicable and nourishing to read, where i felt with de montfort i was just praying as many prayers as i could for 33 days.
