Ash Wednesday
The difference, however, is that I think it’s safe to say neither Nancy nor Ronald Reagan ever had a bottle of champagne in the fridge waiting for a gay man or a feminist to die. The Reagans, I’ll bet, don’t hoot and holler at someone else’s pain.
Ain't that the truth. Very good article.

luciana
That's horrible! If John Kerry died, for example, I wouldn't go to his funeral to protest! (I would at least try to show some decorum while people were mourning his death. Frankly, I'd be praying for his soul.) God bless, Jennifer
Disagreeing with a man's policies is ine thing, disrespect is another.. One columnist said he was pobably currently being fried a crispy brown (in other words in hell ) This is the same columnist who said that the football player who agve it all up to join the army and died in Iraq was an idiot and a sap. Aargh, people have no respect  Ash wednesday said:
I can imagine watching her husband's "long goodbye" was painful for her, which is probably why she's formed her viewpoints with stem cell. I don't think where the research would come from is an issue to her. She and Ronnie really loved each other, they were a total team. But to be honest I haven't always known what to make of Nancy. I won't really say much right now and the woman is in my prayers -- but consider this -- Reagan said his biggest disappointment in his years in office wasn't Iran Contra -- it was that he wasn't able to get Roe v. Wade overturned. So to me supporting stem cell research with embryos, even if it would help cure alzheimers, doesn't really seem to jive with what Reagan believed in.
Nancy has always been more liberal than Ronald in her views. Her sadness and pain at his illness is influencing her opinions. Ronald Reagen was greatly pro-life. Iacobus said:
Well Regan didn't address AIDS till 1987. It is widly thought if he acted sooner we wouldn't have the epidmeic we have now. But most think that Reagan and the WH didn't see or understand how big AIDS was and that hindsight was 20/20.
Hindsight is 20/20. Not Reagan's fault that AIDS continues to be an epidemic. Risky practices (except for the ex. of transfusions and stuff) was the cause. Like Nancy, people's sadness over deaths is influencing their opinion, plus a little denial about the danger of their practices. In Uganda, where the Church and government have done a big abstinence awarenesss campaign AIDS numbers are greatly reduced.
