Questions About The Phorum

Is there somewhere that explains what the different titles mean?  Is there a place for asking these sorts of questions?  Is there a search feature?  Am I being lame enough to post to this sub-phorum?

The short descriptions under each title should help you understand the nature/theme of the various sections.  Also yes, this would be where you would post these questions.   Yes, you are lame enough to post in this sub-phorum. :)

I think I get what the different sub-forums are for, but I don't understand the user titles.  Why does it say I am a lurker when I have posted?  And I saw one poster who was both a Catholic and a Cordial Non-Catholic.  I don't even ...

Titles

number of posts required to get each title:

Lurker 0
PM Newbie 52
PM Peep 134
PM Alien 312
PM Super Alien 777
PM Pham 1584
I Can Change My Own Title Now 3210

...but there are honorary titles as well, such as Church Militant, Regulator, Religious, Clergy etc.

Religion can be set under Profile settings but some people might also have a label assigned to them like Phishy or Cordial Non-Catholic.

You are a Lurker until you have 52 posts then you will be a Newbie.

Thanks for the information.

Does Phishy mean under suspicion, a Fisheaters forum member, or something else? I  suppose Cordial Non-Catholic just means what it says. Is Chummy Commoner the default label?  What are the other labels and what do they mean?

Nihil Obstat

Phishy usually implies that the member in question both identifies as Catholic and also speaks against some Church teachings. Commoner is the default, and Church Militant is for people who over time demonstrate faithfulness to Church teaching.

Things change around here all the time - once upon a time we had reputation titles like Holy, Angel, Archangel etc based on how many props a person had but that's gone now. We went through a phase where we could downvote a post (dislike) but now we are back to just props (like).

I think you pretty much have it right though for the other Titles -- Chummy Commoner appears to be the default for Catholics but if they post things not in line with Church teaching, they get changed to Phishy. Cordial Non-Catholics are just that - posters who aren't Catholic but who show respect in their posts. There was debate over that title as I recall because some non-Catholic Christians didn't want to be labelled as Protestants (although that label is still available under the Religion part of the Profile settings). Anyway, maybe someone else will fill in the blanks - I have been on a break for awhile and might have missed a few incarnations.

I do know that Church Scholars have to be approved (see that section of the phorum for info on qualifications of Church Scholars) and Church Militants have to be nominated by other Church Militants (or Clergy or Religious or Mods etc) and they have to be 100% in line with Church teaching.

And of course, dUSt is the final arbiter of everything to do with labels and who gets them.

So just accept that there are a lot of labels floating around phatmass - part of the challenge is trying to decipher what they all mean. The greater challenge however is not worrying about what they all mean. :)
