Pax!
What does theory of mind tell us about belief in God!

Whose theory of mind, and in what context? Are we talking epistemological theories of mind? Or what? IDGI.

Not much.  I personally think that the field is kind of an intellectual wasteland.  That's harsh.  But's it's been severely misguided, in my view, by an unwarranted commitment to a severe form of reductionism (the the mind is just the brain) and too great a faith in functionalism.

That said, I would recommend against getting too enamored with dualism.  It basically has just as great conceptual shortcomings.  I personally like the work of John Searle but I still think that the cognitive sciences in general are still in too early a stage to make any sweeping declarations about what the mind 'is.'

Nihil Obstat

I got pretty disillusioned with the whole field when I spent two full semesters on the mind body problem, and ultimately the only conclusion was "we have not figured it out yet, so put that aside for now and think about this instead."

I think I got to that stage when, after 3 years of fiddling around with it in this class and that, a friend of mine was able to write some speculative BS thesis paper that got him an A and included serious references to imagery from The Matrix.
