AnneLine
BarbaraTherese, I think the internet can be a wonderful way to keep in touch with people. And that is super-important for all of us in today's world... especially as we get a little older and our bodies get a little creak-ier. But There are lots of ways to do this. CatherineM makes a good point... are there some resources in your part of Australia that can help you keep connected if you find you cannot afford even a basic internet plan from your home? Sometimes it's possible to find a senior center or school or coffee shop that has wifi available. One of the coffee shops near my church has a couple of free computers set up so people can 'check their email'... and maybe spend a little more time surfing. If you have a laptop, you may find there are some places that have free wifi and all you need to do is get near to them. Sometimes coffee shops and hotels and senior centers and schools have this kind of a set up. Maybe you can get hold of one of those 'tablet' things (they aren't too expensive I don't think, and maybe you can find someone who is getting a better one who will give YOUthe old one!)... those will let you get internet enough for basic surfing and email I am pretty sure. If you don't have a laptop or tablet, you may need to really discern, with the help of your director and perhaps talk about it with your doctors/mental health people to see if they feel that having access to the internet is an important thing for you. I realize you are doing volunteer work and other things in the community right now, but if that should change, you want to be sure you have some way of connecting with the bigger world. Praying for you.. has to be hard choices....
BarbTherese
I will be doing all necessary homework before making any actual decision. :)
CatherineM
For a couple of years, I had a neighbor allow me to use his wifi for free. He was a roofer who worked out of town occasionally and I babysat his fish. He had a saltwater tank that needed daily care.
