Nihil Obstat
Ok. But Christianity is the dominate religion in this culture. Christianity may not have the utter monopoly that it had 100 years ago but it is still the dominate force and almost everybody growing up in America is growing up in a Christian culture. So this is not a movement emerging external to Christianity but one emerging from within Christendom. So I don't know if it's intended to be a provocation so much as a reclaiming. Sort of like what Nietzsche did in some of his stuff. But I don't really know. I think satanism is silly. It's not a movement I have any particular familiarity with. Yeah, Nietzsche occurred to me too while I was typing up that post. I think it is certainly fair to say that atheistic Satanism is a sort of practical application of Nietzschean philosophy. So that raises the next question. If Nietzsche wanted to host a black mass, would he find it more rhetorically powerful using a consecrated host for extra 'provocation', or would he be fine with that compromise? Luigi
When one of the oldest and most respected universities in the country willingly hosts a satanic black mass - with or without a consecrated host - who can know the truth about that? - I think it's safe to say that Catholics are persecuted in this country. But I also believe that the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church. And I believe in the power of prayer. The honest prayers of humble people. I wish we could arrange for Sister Shirley Caesar to sing this outside of the black mass, at the same time as the black mass, preferably through some pretty massive loudspeakers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5MeA68YSK0

Luigi
Satan - the Father of All Lies. And the people who worship him are, by definition, liars. And people who support them are, by definition, liars or fools. Perhaps educated fools, but fools all the more because of their education. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjx62LP11Xk

Really, if you're going to call me a liar or a fool at least have the nerve to actually say it. Enough with the poorly veiled insults.
Luigi
Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for their is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people shall revile you and persecute you for my sake and shall say all manner of evil against you. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrmhRoS-XE4
4588686
If Satan were here I'd be like, 'hey Satan, my friend JC asked me to give you a message' and then I'd be like 'Smack!' 'Bam!' 'Pow!' 'Kaboom!.' Smack him right in the mouth and then I'd be like 'hey, satan, why are you crying????' and then he'd be like 'SHUT THE HECK UP I'M NOT CRYING' and then I'd be like 'Yeah, right, crybaby!' and then I'd be like 'hey, by the way, tell your mom I said thanks, lol' and then he'd be like 'THANK HER FOR WHAT?!' and then I'd be all 'don't worry about it ;)'

MIKolbe
and why does it have to be a "black" Mass... that's racial.
Jaime
Ok. I find the content of the Mass fairly offensive. However non-believers make up a tiny percentage of the population so those feelings doesn't have the privileged place in our society that your offense does. I'm curious. What do you find offensive about the mass?
