PhuturePriest
As someone on the edge of generation X and gen Y/millenials I can see the gap developing. For instance, pareting has completely changed (as in lillabets article). Rebellion was cool, upset our parents and was expected. At a private college in the early 2000's RA's did room check orientation weekend to ensure that the freshman were not hooking up or at least being safe about it. Today, RA's do room checks to ensure that parents aren't sleeping over on their child's first night in the dorms. Really? I would die if my parents even suggested they stay the first night in my dorm.
blazeingstar
Really? I would die if my parents even suggested they stay the first night in my dorm. You're a guy so they do it less, but yes, one of the primary things RA/orientation assistants are now trained on is kicking parents out of the dorms. Parents call RA's when little Johnny has a cold so they can make sure Johnny takes his niquil. They call the Professors when Johnny gets a bad grade. They make decisions about Changing major as a family project.... ...rebellion was favorable because at-least the kids who made it to college usually had some drive and pretended to know what they wanted. A vast majority of college attending persons under 25ish feel that their degree is a group decision. They won't do anything without the word "club" in its name (except for guys who do video games). They still like fairly empty praise...it really works for them. I work with students of all ages so I can see the different way they approach things. Me: Yay you got in A in ENG 100 18-24 yo -Thanks! I worked hard and really deserved it. I'm glad you called, I saw my grade already but its good to hear from you. 25-35 yo -Well, I i was nervous because I skipped most of HS english 10 years ago, but I'm glad I came out of this with a decent grade. 35-50 yo - Umm thanks but why would you call me to say good job, it's ENG 100? (basically why dafux you bothering me)
