4588686
I think there's a difference between erecting a monument with 10 really, really good ideas to live by and an image of one's religion. The 10 Commandments are an image of your religion. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous.
Credo in Deum
Regardless of the "Catholics don't worship statutes" endless argment I would not like a statue of Jesus in a public place, either.
Anomaly
I'm good with it, especially considering the association with the seven tenets. It's the rare person that perfectly follows their espoused tenets. Just the concept of having any tenets to order your life by is good for society.
4588686
As an Okie, I have doubts that they will allow it. However, if they do, I suspect someone will blow it to bits. I don't see how they could legally exclude it. Unless they get rid of the 10 Commandments statue.

Blowing things up is unfortunately in keeping with Oklahoma history. I say they should be allowed to do it. If people wanted to take it down and destroy it, I would even protect the statue. What happened to the freedom of religion jargon conservatives are always proclaiming? Or is it just freedom of my religion?

PhuturePriest
I have no problem with this statue so long as it looks really cool. Too many statues on government property are lame and boring. I personally think we need a Satan to spice things up a bit.

Credo in Deum
So far we've had one Catholic say they wouldn't want a statue of Jesus displayed an a public area and another say they would defend a statue of Satan.

CrossCuT
What does gay marriage have to do with statues of Satan? Well you expressed that you dont care about the satanic statue because freedom of religous extends to everyone, not just Catholics. So why dont you extend the freedom of these people to get married even though YOUR religion says its bad? Maybe their religion doesnt say its bad. So why cant they get married? You might respond with, well its detrimental to their souls and I should try to lead them to God. Fair enough. But would a satanic statue imply satanic worship which is just as bad for someones soul? So are you only for freedom of religion for everyone in only a few cases? Youre using your faith as a reason to deny someone a right in one circumstance but not the other. I don't agree with how it works or how it's run. Too many things contradict each other. The 2nd amendment doesn't apply to mounted machine guns, and freedom of religion only applies to "approved" religions. Nothing works the way it's claimed to, and that's because it has to work that way. If freedom of religion worked the way it was claimed to, then people could have Satanic rituals and sacrifice people. But even if the people being sacrificed were willing, the government would step in and stop it. So does freedom of religion not mean what it says? There are more holes in this system than Swiss cheese, and it simply doesn't work. It's not working and it never has worked.

I wasnt asking about the system, i was asking what you thought about extending the idea of freedom of religious to homosexuals, ie, not forcing YOUR religious ideals onto them. None of which is true, but small minds don't know this. Edited May 2, 2014 by Vitamin
