What I've spent on prom: $0

Why?

Never gone to it. I went to a showcase instead, and it was far better than any prom could aspire to be. Its theme: People that actually know how to dance.

I actually was going to go to prom, but I chose visiting the seminary instead.

I'm homeschooled, but I have friends that go to school, and I was going to go to their prom.

I went to the prom with a friend who was much younger than me. I was a big dork in high school and still am. My sister told me it was stupid and a big waste of time and... She was right!!! However the guy I went with is being ordained this year so I'd like to think his "date" with me in some way inspired him to choose celibacy.

My cousin dated a guy for a long time, and then he broke up with her and came out as gay, so we sometimes call her The Spatula.

I never went to senior prom.  I did, however, go to my 9th grade class dance (before 9th grade was merged back with high school).  Since Titanic was big that year, we had a promenade theme and received little keepsake books with dance cards and an invitation with a ship on it.  It was so cool.  I still have both the invitation and book.  I even have a picture of what I wore - a light green ankle length dress with flowers and a light green cardigan.  I went stag with my friend and we had a blast!  :)

Oh, I did get to wear a prom dress, though, in my senior year!  I was in the talent show and all of the girls were allowed to go to Jessica McClintock and rent a dress.  I got the prettiest purple dress that had lace-up ties in the back and a full skirt.  I felt like a princess.  I sang karaoke to "How Do I Live With You" by LeAnn Rimes.  So amesome!

I went to prom once...it was stupid.

I think my school tried to be cool and have it on a boat that sailed down the river....but it was a cold and rainy day and there was no mode of escape if you wanted to leave because....you were on a boat.

Plus, there were pervs on the shore fishing or something that asked us to flash them....

Maggie left out the part where I told her I wasn't going to prom but she didn't believe me until the day of, at which point she got hysterical when she asked me where my dress was and I said "told you i'm not going to prom," at which point she backed the station wagon into the basketball hoop, at which point she was freaking out over the massive dent in the fender, at which point I told her to hold her wrist and cry and Dad would just be glad she was safe, at which point she did, at which point it was fine, at which point I agreed to go to the effing prom in an effing cocktail dress and be one of the "twins" who went to prom with an effing freshman who is getting ordained this year.

yay, prom.

I regret not asking Winchester to prom. Perhaps things could have been different between us. Perhaps Winchester's rebellious concern for all living things would have softened my hard-nosed no nonsense statist approach to life and given me something called a"soul" which I hear makes you not want to kill people. I sometimes think of the beautiful Libertarian babies that could have been.
