Maggyie
1. People who don't have big Catholic families aren't necessarily contracepting. Don't assume that they are. Don't assume this about childless couples either. For the second time in my life I had someone state they disliked the end of My Big Fat Greek Wedding because it showed the main characters went on to have one little kid. So they must not be open to life. I'm not sure the level of obsession that must exist for people to actually make rash judgements about fictional characters but apparently it exists in Catholicland. I mean I've never monitored a movie for such "signs of potential infidelity" but apparently people do. Imagine what the subconscious of this person must be like. Imagine. 2. Most people who are infertile aren't that way because they "put their careers first" or "got an STD." If you're convinced of this for some reason, don't say it out loud. You don't know who is listening, and even if you know the person you're talking to is a parent, that doesn't mean they're not struggling with secondary infertility or had a long journey to have their baby(ies). I can't believe it but so many people think this way and have no problem saying it. Both wrong and rude. 3. Yes maternity is important in all its many forms, spiritual, biological, mentoring etc. However women do have value outside of being somebody's mother in some fashion.
