Canada Has Wealthiest Middle Class

Lived in the US for 43 years, and Canada for almost 9 now. My uneducated, unresearched opinion is healthcare. The poorest on both sides are taken care of, and the rich don't need help. The middle class here don't lose their homes if they get a sick kid. No one files bankruptcy for medical bills. No one loses their job by getting sick because they can afford their heart medicine.

This is a good point. Its possible that the raises are going towards employee health insurance plans.

If you call fourteen years of pay increases a bubble, what do you call fourteen years of flatline payrates?

What happens after the bubble.

Who cares. We're Canadian. After the bubble, we'll carry on eh.

What will we do without Flaherty?

What happens after the bubble.

Sounds more like a cop out to me.

I suppose you think McDonalds would send all of its stores overseas if we raised the minimum wage to $10.10/hr too?

Canada has now surpassed the U.S. in middle class wealth, meaning it now has the wealthiest middle class in the world. Here is Stephen Colbert reporting this confounding phenomenon:

http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/8l716g/canada-s-booming-middle-class?xrs=synd_facebook_042614_cn_42

Sorry, I read this as "Canada has more average people than the U.S."

(findthebest.com)

Full time workers:

US top 20%: $70,927
US Average: $54,450
US bottom 20%: $24,080

Canada top 20%: $58,316

Canada Average: $42,253

Canada bottom 20%: $24,547

I've got to see the data... the NYT article does say "After-tax income." I'm suspicious of the conclusions people draw from this.

These headlines may offer some perspective.
Canada Cuts Corporate Tax Rate to 15%, Lowest Overall Rate in G-7 (Tax Foundation, Jan 2012)

The 35% corporate tax rate in the U.S. is the highest among the world's developed economies and could be cut to improve global competitiveness. (LA Times, Dec 2012)

I haven't seen any indication that this has changed since 2012... yay USA... we're losing the race to mediocrity.

yeah, the japanese have managed for 24 years now.  We are still here 14 years after the first crash.  btw, nice strategic use of "eh", joker.

yeah, Math isn't a strong point for most journalists and very, very few could even read a balance sheet or draw any insights from the data on their own.
