PhuturePriest
Canada has now surpassed the U.S. in middle class wealth, meaning it now has the wealthiest middle class in the world. Here is Stephen Colbert reporting this confounding phenomenon: http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/8l716g/canada-s-booming-middle-class?xrs=synd_facebook_042614_cn_42

NotreDame
I'd like to say it's the oil drilling plus 8 years of a conservative president, but more than likely it's just a bubble caused by their fed who has kept a ridiculously low interest rate while their oil production doubled. And with our crouton-covered economy we are lucky to be in 2nd.

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Canada is the shinning star of the commonwealth although a republic now. New zealand and australia are waiting to be granted of becoming a republic, or perhaps we will stay commonwealth, we where given a choice about 10 years ago to become a republic or not and majority australians voted stay on the mothers tit. :P Edited April 28, 2014 by Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
CrossCuT
Here is an article about it if you dont want to watch a video Although economic growth in the United States continues to be as strong as in many other countries, or stronger, a small percentage of American households is fully benefiting from it. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/23/upshot/the-american-middle-class-is-no-longer-the-worlds-richest.html?rref=upshot&_r=1 Basically, we are still making $$$ in the US but the top wealthiest percentiles in the country are holding the money hostage. Womp womp.

I will sorely miss Colbert's conservative caricature. I've never cared for Letterman.
CatherineM
Lived in the US for 43 years, and Canada for almost 9 now. My uneducated, unresearched opinion is healthcare. The poorest on both sides are taken care of, and the rich don't need help. The middle class here don't lose their homes if they get a sick kid. No one files bankruptcy for medical bills. No one loses their job by getting sick because they can afford their heart medicine.
