LouisvilleFan
My goddaughter just turned 8 and wants a "real Bible" for first Communion. Has anyone found a good RSV-CE translation with maps, illustrations, prayers, etc. that would be helpful for learning and engaging Scripture? I hoped Ignatius would have a good one, but I didn't see anything for the pre-teen/teen audience. Thanks!

ThereseMaria
I use the Catholic Youth Bible, it has articles in it that help you link the readings to real life, and is NRSV (New Revised Standard Version). At the end, it has a bunch of maps, timelines, and pictures from the New Testament. - Includes articles that have prayer, apply readings to real life, and explains the Bible and its content in greater detail (giving background information.) - Has maps (Including the World of the Patriarchs, The Exodus from Egypt, The Kingdom Years, The Assyrian Empire, the Babylonian Empire, The Ministry of Jesus, Paul's First and Second Journeys, Paul's Third and Fourth Journeys, and The Holy Land in Modern Times.) - Has timelines (Timeline of Human History and Timeline of Biblical History) - Pictures (Holy Land: Old/New Testament Places) - Alphabetical List of Biblical Books and Abbreviations - Introductions to major sections of the Bible, as well as each book. I personally think it would be a great Bible for a preteen, because it explains things, and has resources that the reader can use to more fully understand what they are reading. Thanks... sounds like everything in the "extras" I was looking for and then some. I see they also offer it in the New American translation. I wish RSV was an option, but I can budge on the translation if lots of goodies are included.
