Luigi
http://www.monks.org/aud_vis_20140421_resurrexi.html Perhaps interesting. I don't personally like that 40-note-per-syllable style of chant, but I know some of you guys do. And this chant has a nice video with it. And the Latin lyrics plus their English translation. Enjoy! ... If it's the kind of thing you enjoy. Edited April 26, 2014 by Luigi
maximillion
Yeah, perhaps I agree. We used the more modern, simpler form of chant ( in Latin) with some of that same longer style on big feasts. You have to have superb breath control for some of those chants. It takes longer for the LOTH too, not that that was ever an issue. One thing the longer more elaborate forms give is time to connect to the prayerfulness of the chant - once you have got the breath control and the pronunciation that is. It is more demanding, in my experience, at every level. What I like about this recording is that it is as it is, warts and all, with the wavering voices of the older monks clearly audible. Recent recordings by the Benedictines of Mary are technically very good and there is nothing wrong of course in striving for perfection in the LOTH, but I prefer the more natural sound of monials chanting their everyday bread and butter way, if you follow...... Is this the Solesmes tradition?
