ChristinaTherese
I think it depends on the person, and the culture. People in Spain, Poland (I think), and other places generally greet friends/people they know with hugs. On the other hand, handshakes are common in the USA. Similarly, some people like hugging (like FP) and some don't (like my brother and father). A lot more sociology/anthropology/psychology/IDKology (I don't really know what, the social sciences are pretty unfamiliar to me.) goes into the answer to whether someone likes hugs, and not very much religion. PhuturePriest
Do you hug Priests (alter christus) or is that just awkward? And you hug both men and women? I don't discriminate. Priest hugs are awesome. And since most of my friends are girls, I hug women more often than men, though I don't have a preference either way. I don't think it's weird to embrace another man like some might.

In a lot of other cultures, kissing your friends on the lips is a common practice, even if they are the same gender. Russia does this, if I'm not mistaken. PhuturePriest
Physical affection is my love language hands-down, and I love hugging so much, in fact, that one ingenious thing I came up with one day at adoration is I imagine embracing Jesus or Mary. It brought my spiritual life to a whole new level.
CatherineM
Usually not. I'm large, tall and crippled. Men who aren't as tall as me, don't want me to smother them. People are afraid of hurting me. Women end up in my bosom. I've got a six foot wing span so I am hug capable.
Spem in alium
I love hugging, but I don't always initiate it as not everyone likes it. I will hug someone I've never met previously, but it depends on the circumstances. I hug Sisters all the time - they give such nice hugs! I hug priests as well, but that usually depends on them. My Parish Priest will normally shake hands, while another priest I know always hugs me when I see him.
Luigi
Your question is too broad. None of us can speak for all Catholics. Two choices - 1. Design a survey, following all the rigorous rules of engagement required for scientific validity, survey a large number of Catholics of all ages, races, genders, nationalities, the analyze the results OR 2. Observe, and come to your own conclusions. BTW, I don't believe that the Bible tells us that Jesus ever hugged anyone. Ergo, hugs are un-Biblical. I guess that means there's bad news for married people and those who use electricity.
Luigi
Hugs may actually be a post-Vatican II innovation. I'm not sure. I'll have to do some research.

Pretttyyy sure hugs were part of Bugnini's masonic innovations.. : P I don't like hugging. Most of my family is evangelical and think it's necessary for everyone to hug everyone.. all the time. That includes the men. It's awkward. There are only two people I enjoyed hugging, and they were both non-related girls. One of them had a huge awesome bear hug, and the other was tiny haha.
