For the heck of it ... any Phatmassers with alopecia? :bounce:

I know two people with alopecia but it would be interesting to know some other baldies and hear their experiences, coping skills, etc. :)

I've had alopecia areata for almost three years and at my worst this summer I lost 60% of my hair. As of now about 30% of my hair is gone so it is getting better.  :smile2:

I do not have alopecia. I do, however, have really terrible genes from my father's side that are going to make me bald by the time I'm 24, thus ruining the totally awesome hair I got from my grandfather on my mother's side. :P

well... I don't have alopecia per se, but my hair has always been HORRIBLY thin and more-or-less useless.  I have always longed for a huge mane of hair... but it was not meant to be.

There are some really good videos on creative ways to use scarves and hair coverings on Youtube, but I am sure you know that.  And some of the hair pieces are pretty good... but it just isn't the same as having a good head of hair, is it...

:console:  You got my love, and God and I (and a bunch of others, I'd bet!) think you are beautiful.

You're just like my violin teacher. She has very thin hair also, borderline alopecia. That is just as much of a struggle, and I can't imagine. :(

Yeah, thank God there are a lot of great videos. It's difficult though because my curls are like, seven different lengths but you eventually learn how to work with it.  :smile2:

Thanks so much. You are too kind. :)

Thank you I am over propped today, so I can't prop that lovely response.

I sometimes think one of the reasons I wanted to be as sister was to not have to deal with it...

IF i can find a hair cutter who knows what to do it can look borderline ok.  But after a day or so without a shampoo... looks like the fairies had stolen half my hair in the night (as the Irish might put it).

AND once in a while some 'enterprising' hair cutter will want to give me a 'layered' cut -- which makes me look like a wet gooneybird even when it is dry.

You know it is bad when the kids in the daycare center point to the shampoo I had around (because I had to mop the floors at noon and when it is sweaty it REALLY looks bad.....) and ask, with totally innocent voices, "I thought that kind of shampoo was supposed to make your hair look good?"   :paperbag:

I WISH I could wear the paperbag for real sometimes...

(not me, but it could have been my twin....)

Am I stupid if I think "Alopecians" sounds like an Indian tribe? :P

I know!! It sounds like some kind of alien name. I am officially a classified martian.

Perhaps the Alopicians are Discalced Martians... you must wear sandals....

Yes. We are "Discalced Martians" who have special skin that doesn't feel the pain of ninety shots in the head every three weeks.

And Man Martians are attracted to the bald spots. The more you have, the better.

This should probably be moved to the lame board. rotfl

Emphasis added....

Then I think perhaps we are the Discalced Empathizers of Jesus Crowned with Thorns or some such thing...

There is NOTHING lame about that... it's downright heroic, i<3LSOP!

Bahaha! That is the best thing I have ever been classified as. My day is made. No. Actually my life is.

You get used to it after a while though, it's usually over in ten minutes. :smile2:
