I've been reading Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves by Jason Evert, and it says he prostrated all the time in his room. I've been trying to get into the habit, but I've noticed almost nobody else does it. I've been doing it in my room, but yesterday I decided to try it in the church in the aisle. I made sure no one else was around so nobody thought I had passed out and died. :P

I haven't tried it yet.  But your post reminds me of all the annoying times I've heard a lector say "prostate" instead of "prostrate."

It depends on the exact circumstances. Prostration is much more common in the Eastern Catholic traditions.

I tend to find it too comfortable.... I have sometimes, but not very often.

Too comfortable? What do you mean?

I like how historical it is. It comes from the Old Testament, where the Jews would lie prostrate in front of holy things. Abraham fell prostrate in front of the Angel, for instance.

I also like that men do it during the ordination ceremony.

I got into prostrating through one of my best friends. As a Muslim, she prostrates during her own prayer. I prayed with her once and thought it was a beautiful action, so now I use it occasionally in my own prayer. I've not yet tried it in a church though. :)

By too comfortable I mean that it's too close to positions I'd sleep in. And then when I get distracted I can be sleepy too, which is no good. Or at least it's far too comfortable on my carpeted floors. And elsewhere, people would see me and I don't want them to. I definitely like it for the reasons you stated though. (And profession of solemn vows. Not just ordination.)

Oh, I never sleep on my chest. I sleep too heavily, and sometimes I put my nose in the pillow in my sleep and almost suffocate, so I always sleep on my back. :P

TMI.

It happens. The days of me being able to stand on the toilet and hit the sink are over. Bummer.
