chrysostom
People really do over-value feelings. As long as you know what you did was wrong and sincerely never want to do them again, that's all that matters. God commends the man who intellectually knows what he did was wrong and swears to never do it again more than the man who weeps every time he sins but never plans to stop. chrysostom gave this props via quote because he reached his daily quota. It's nice to hear that about feelings. This is kind of unrelated, but I went to my parents' Baptist Sunday service yesterday - I haven't been since my conversion - and things got a bit weird when I refused the "communion" crackers+juice. I'm now, apparently, an excessively "dogmatic" person. (yay!) More in line with the "feelings" thing, it's kind of odd now to see one of my siblings pursue a Protestant spirituality that is EXTREMELY reliant on feelings - to the extent that the "Spirit" is more or less "your feelings" in practice. Oh, definitely. In Baptist and evangelical backgrounds, feelings are everything. Do you FEEL a zeal for the Lord? Do you have an undying PASSION for Jesus? They mistake feelings with actual love, which is of course bogus. Becoming emotional is great, but unless those emotions are based on actual love and zeal for God rather than just the feeling of the moment, they're useless.
