Get a load of this nonsense.

Can I petition that the school has "Catholic" removed from its name?

Why so? Has the school reacted negatively or back-pedaled from the talks? The article makes it seem as the school and diocese have both responded quite well.

The talks were arranged by the chaplain.

The main petition discussed seems to be a student's creation. The 2nd petition linked also seems to be from a student and offers a response to the main petition in light of Catholic teaching.

Hopefully, the meeting the school invited the parents to attend concerning the conferences will offer it another chance to clarify the Church's teachings on this matter and help parents be better informed when discussing this matter with their children.

I read both petitions and I have to wonder at the first one because the second one seems pretty well stated in my opinion.  Why is it that Sr. Jane should've spoken and condemned gun violence or world hunger instead of homosexual activity?  I very highly doubt that anyone in the audience thought that gun violence is great or that world hunger is nonexistent.  We all know those are big issues and certainly can be discussed but the whole point of evangelizing is not to preach to the choir.  Jesus didn't simply preach to the apostles; He preached to people who hated His message and drove him out of their synagogues and towns.  I'm always amazed at people who insist that the only thing Jesus ever preached was tolerance.  The mere sight of Him crucified should be enough of a reminder that He was hated for His teachings.  If Jesus tolerated everything that everybody ever did, He never would've ended up on that cross.  He preached the love and peace that come from the Father which are different from what the world thinks they are.  I didn't hear Sr. Jane's speech so perhaps the message came across more harshly than it should've; I have no idea.  But that's not what the students are upset about.  They didn't like what she had to say.  And as per usual, Pope Francis' words are being taken out of context.  He said that we don't need to talk about these issues all the time; that doesn't mean we should never speak of them.

This culture that we live in today that wants to silence any unpopular beliefs is depressing.

Ash Wednesday

I was going to say something long winded about this but then I got tired. So I'll just pray.

MissScripture

It bothers me more than it should that the article keeps referring to get as "Sr. Jane." Her name is Sr. Jane DOMINIC!
