Pia Jesu
After hearing a Carmelite priest say that St. Teresa of Avila approached prayer outside of or beyond the physicality of Jesus, I began to wonder about the conversion (from Judaism to Catholicism) experienced by Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) after she read the former's biography. Given the saint's philosophical background--under the mentorship of Edmnd Husserl--could she have come to know Jesus through phenomenological bracketing or reduction...by suspending or setting aside biases, judgements, previous beliefs, etc., in order to discover, like St. Teresa of Avila, the essence of Jesus-- as Truth, Light, Love...? How is this worked through in our own spiritual life?
