Lentedn Reflection Thingy

The other day I was at Mass and during the reading I was thinking about The Cross. And I was simultaneously looking at a painting of Jesus falling on his way to Calvary. Then I was thinking about how life is about choosing one side. We are all called to die on the cross with Jesus but there are others who choose to be the ones who nailed Jesus to the cross. And, to a certain extent we all had a part in nailing Jesus to the cross but, every day, every second, we can choose to die on the cross with Christ instead of being the ones who nail him to the cross.

In thinking about this, I realized these are the two paths we have the free will to choose. (But we should remember that sin is the misuse of free will). We can choose between sin which makes us the ones who nail Jesus to the cross. Or, we can die on the cross with Jesus; the only way to eternal life.

I also had the thought that we should die on the cross not only because we want to get to heaven, (if we do it just for that we are simply going through the motions) but, We should die on the cross with Jesus because we love him with all that we are. He allows us to share in his passion by our sufferings and thus he allows us to be co-redeemers of the world (even though it may be only a small part). If we knew how much Jesus loves us we would not ever want to sin again.

I apologize if this comes off as me rambling on! It was just a few thoughts I had and wanted to share with you all.

p.s. sorry for the spelling error in the title! It should say "Lenten".

I also find some exciting thoughts come in those spare moments in Church, pondering and praying. Every sin we commit was already payed for, then you would be completely right in saying we have all taken part in nailing Jesus to the cross.

I'm very cautious about navigating people's understanding of salvation and how they want to get there. Some of us are more like Peter, some are more like John the beloved. Some are more intellectual, like St. Luke. Some of us have a deep sort of mystical love of Christ such as in the Carmelite tradition or the great mystical traditions of the Eastern saints. Other people labour all day, live dour simple lives and simple prayers. Loving Christ with all that we are is certainly ideal though. I'm just considering some people are still sipping milk and honey, while others of us are into the meat.

Anyways, on a tangent, after confession today I felt so amazing. It's easier to see the weight of sin once it's gone. Thank you for posting your lenten ramblings. :)
