If only my family had the same views. Sometimes ultra-conservatism and libertines tick me off.

Conduct Politics as Catholics, 'Render Unto Caesar'

It is interesting or perhaps disappointing that there are over69 million Catholics in the United States, one fourth of the population. Morethan 150 congressmen say they are Catholic. In the Senate, the Catholics areone out of four. They are the majority on the Supreme Court.

But, what difference do they make?

It's all about money and pleasure.

Few are the faithful, even in the Church Herself. And that is a sad reality of our times.

We should start setting up real Catholic conspiracies to give all the Dan Brown folks a heart attack.

Maybe we should start the rumor that during Passover, Coca-Cola stops using that high-fructose corn syrup slime, and uses real sugar for a short run of "Kosher Coke." All for the Jews! Oh, wait, that rumor is factual. And has nothing to do with Catholics. Ah well, we should say that somehow, the Jesuits are getting a kickback from South American and Caribbean sugar-production labor unions. And that they, like, assasinate people, and stuff.

What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, (or a congressional district) but loses his soul?

That would be like gaining hot and cold water in the same glass. You end up lukewarm. And ultimately, cold.

Only if you're assuming that gaining the world = selfish and/or disordered intent.

There isn't a person alive who would want to rule the world for unselfish reasons for more than 5 minutes.
And no humble (ordered) man would take the job.

Maybe, maybe not. Complicated, yes. Full of temptation, yes. Enormous potential to do real good in the world? Absolutely.
