Receiving The Eucharist When You're Super Late For Mass

Hey

lately I've been dropping by the cathedral after work, and surprisingly there was Mass happening today. I think it's usually earlier in the day. I received communion today, even though I came in maybe 5 minutes beforehand, just enough time to grant each other peace. Is that okay? I don't mean to make a habit of it. I just thought, why pass it up since I'm here. I've been to confession recently and make sure to attend Mass on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Thanks

The Mass is much more that receiving Holy Communion. It's not just popping in for Holy Communion. The Mass consists principally  of the the Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. So if one goes to Mass as such you should be present for all of the Mass if possible. I'm  presuming good intentions, but we must remember to put our hearts and minds into one’s own full, active and conscious participation at Holy Mass so that Holy Communion is not separated from the Mass.
