What's worse: Not fasting, or murdering people? Because food keeps the rest of you lot tolerable.

I'll buy you a milkshake myself. Just don't hurt anybody.

See user title. Serve yourself with garlic.

A spoonful of garlic helps the heart full of blood go down, the heart full of blood go down...

Sue me. I still like eating Italian(s).

Do you have a diagnosed medical disease?

If so, then you are not required to fast.  I have diagnosed hypoglycemia...i don't get mean though, I get very anxious and very depressed

Diabetics have to be especially careful with the fasting and meal portions. Don't fast your self into a coma...

In other words if one daily consumes 2,100 calories, the amount to be consumed on a fasting day should be about 700?

So I wasn't as wrong as I thought I was.  It should be just under the equivalent of two meals.

Remember that these are minimums to fasting. Also, the calorie thing is not how we should be tracking it. It isn't 1300 calories any time of the day. Minimizing hunger by spacing the meals just right isn't what is intended.

Personally I do dinner as my full meal as I am less likely to be irritable with the family. The two very small meals (banana, and 3 crackers with tomato) just help me get by being productive at work.

If you can't fast, you're encouraged to "fast" from something else.

But yeah, like Slappo said, these are just the bare minimums. It's up to us to use our good judgment and figure out what would be the best way to apply the laws to our situations, conscious of the spirit of the law.

So I learned yesterday that working out on fasting day is not a good idea. So be careful on fasting and don't overwork yourselves on fasting day.

How formally diagnosed does it have to be?

How formally diagnosed does it have to be?

I would say by a doctor or nurse or in a clinical setting or in lieu of that regular over the counter testing of glucose.  People's observations are woefully inaccurate.  I knew I had a tendency to be rather irrational when hungry but after a couple bizarre water-drinking episodes where I felt parched I was actually diagnosed.  Many people who think they have hypoglycemia actually don't, and those who do would do well with medical advice before it develops into something more sever like heart damage or diabetes.

Ask your doctor if it's a good idea for you to cut back on your food for the day (don't just say fast - fasting means different things for different people, so tell your doctor what it would entail and see what he or she says).

Or if you really aren't sure, just try to fast from something else that would give you an equivalent amount of discomfort. For me, I'd probably fast from tv, internet, radio, and music for the day.  The point of fasting is to practice mastering your own desires so that you can instead focus those desires on Christ (sometimes you'll hear priests talk about the communion fast being about being "hungry for Christ").  Generally speaking, the Church cares more about people following the spirit of the law than the exact letter.
