I recommend 'Leaf by Niggle' along with the corresponding essay 'On Faerie Tales' that Tolkien wrote. It has a lot of insight on why he wrote LotR as he did and his views on life.
I read "Leaf By Niggle" when I was researching my term paper.. I actually had included it in the paper, but had to cut it because of length restrictions.. grrrr... It's a GREAT story, though!!! ^_^
I've never seen the LOTR movies, but I am halfway through the first book.
its very wise to read the books first...
that way you will relate to the movies a lot easier. i thought everything in the movies were portrayed exactly how i imagined them while reading the books.
you are my twin.  :sadder:

I thought I was a loner.

my house or yours?
I'm your triplet!!! :rolling: I must have been born first ( I just turned 29 :P )

I had a LOTR marathon w/ my cousin and little sister w/ the first two extended versions the same day we went to see the Return of the King. Started in the morning and lasted all day into night. After the movie, where we cried like babies at the end, we went to an IHOP and talked about the movie till it was time to collapse into bed.

Yay, we're not the only  ones!
...And when Aragorn heals Ewoyen and Faramir, and their love story and when her brother finds her and King Theodeon on the battle field and more......
Yeah...can't wait! They so need the extended version parts..the ending is rushed w/out them. Some things were confusing to my cousin who hasn't read the books.

I would be that nurse, too
If they showed the trilogy back to back at the movie theatre, all extended versions, I would be there.....
Definitely!!!!   Us after 12+ hours:

P.S. here's a link to the lifeteen.com Tolkien and Reiligion article that Gunga_Ann first mentioned: http://www.lifeteen.com/lotr.asp

Mine is too, my parents love the books and movie. My mom has some amazing drawings from before the movies she went on just the descriptions. They preorder the extended version and watch them a million times, like a little kid with a disney movie.
What a cool thread!! I cannot wait until the third extended DVD. Don't forget the Houses of Healing, and the sacaramental representations there. I plan on chasing out my family, setting up all three extended DVDs and watching for 12+ hours all straight in a row!!!
My family would kill me if I chased them out. My 11yr old daughter has read the trilogy twice and their big treat is to have popcorn and watch half of one of the extended versions(bedtime comes first!), my dh and I usually watch the other half when they go to bed.

White Knight

Ive watched the Entire LOTR Trilogy all 3 movies at the sametime, to save time, so instead of having a 9 hour period of movies, I could have it all in a single period of 3 hours and 20 mins.

I saw FOTR 2 times
I saw TTT 4 times.
I saw ROTK 2 times

In the Theaters.

but since there in my collection now Ive seen them countless of times. lol

So it was very easy for me to watch all three of them procisely at the same time.

I must say, These movies right here have been the New movie era's highlights. early 00's period. "Asbolute Masterpeice!"
