Do I Have To Like The Pope?

It never occurred to me when I became a Catholic that I might some day have a pope that I wouldn't care for.  I loved JPII and Benedict.  I wish I could say the same for Francis.

assess what issues you have with the pope first and if they are real issues at all or media distortion causing inncorrect information.

Much of it has to do with his criticism of capitalism.

But today I learned he stole a crucifix off a dead priest.  I really don't need to know that, and would prefer he kept that to himself.  It seems he's going out of his way to be a "regular guy."

It's very normal for Catholics to sometimes disagree with the pope on pastoral approach or informal speech. Many Catholics will often relate to one pope more than another.

That said we're commanded to love our neighbor and pray for them. Especially the pope! Even if it doesn't give someone warm fuzzies to do so.

I like the pope. I do not like people distorting and misquoting him, though. People should focus a little less on his pastoral approach and a little more on the gospel he's trying to preach.

You don't have to, but it will ease your burden if you do.  So ask God to give you the grace.

For what it's worth, if you read his background, he's always been a pretty simple man and "regular guy" -- often took public transportation and lived in simple quarters even back in Buenos Aires. It's new to everyone else, but not him.

lts not like any form of government does not deserve and have criticism.  so his criticism has merit.  capatilism is not perfect and deserves criticism just like all forms of government.

so you don't want the pope to come off as a sinner?  he told us something he did that was wrong, is that so bad.  are we supposed to think the pope is sinless?
