Recommended Lent Reading

Each Lent I always choose one book of the Bible to study in depth, and one other spiritual book to read. This year I've got the Song of Songs for my Bible study and a fairly short book called The Ladder of the Beatitudes for my other spiritual reading. (It's a commentary on the beatitudes, as the name suggests, by an Eastern Orthodox writer.) I chose the Song of Songs because this year I want to meditate on the desert as a place of searching and intimacy with God, and The Ladder of the Beatitudes because those blessings of Jesus intrigue me and I've never fully understood them. :)

 

I thought that we could use this thread for book recommendations. People can share their favourite Lent reading; and if anyone has an idea of the sort of thing they want to read but hasn't got a specific book, they could post here, and then hopefully others will have suggestions.
