NotreDame
Lent has indeed started early. Do people seriously get grumpier around Lent? I've never had that experience. I'm investigating... I think it's because so many people give up romantic comedies for lent... I know that if I don't have my Ro-com's I get pretty tense. Selah
Try having no fun things to eat because you basically go vegan for Ortho Lent. <_< "Oh, but weekends I can eat/cook with oil and drink wine! Yay?" Said nobody ever.
PhuturePriest
Actually, it was Hitler`s dad`s fault because he was a bad dad and he would not let Adolf go to art school. Behold, the value of a good father. And let that be a lesson to you parents: if your child wants to go to art school, let him. Otherwise, he'll become the leader of the country and try to take over the world.
PhuturePriest
Try having no fun things to eat because you basically go vegan for Ortho Lent. <_< "Oh, but weekends I can eat/cook with oil and drink wine! Yay?" Said nobody ever. I don't really like food. Two Lents ago, I gave myself only three hours of social media/tv/anything with technology a day, prayed a minimum of an hour a day, read an hour a day, read the bible for half an hour a day, slept on the floor, and fasted two days a week. It had zero negative impacts on me. In fact, it probably made me happier.
Didacus
I believe that trying to find fault in one or other religious group with regards to the 'rise of Hitler' is trying to read a little too much into history, and is dangerously misleading is the overall lessons to be learned from the Nazi movement. It really doesn't matter if the voters were ducks or donkeys, it doesn't prove that what ducks and donkey's beliefs are equally evil to the Nazi ideology - because the ideologies of ducks donkeys do not match the Nazi ideology overall (IE; nowhere does it say in a duck's book of truths that killing off mass amount of people is justified, nor that a certain country has an inherent right to extend its borders through exertion of their military strength). Quick question; has anyone who weigh in their comments on here read Mein Kampf?

NotreDame
It's just an interesting datapoint. I've been meaning to dig into the study to see who the Catholics were voting for instead of Hitler and when. I have never read mein kampf, have you? Didacus
I am reading it now. Got about 120 pages in. If you think he hated the Jews - boy oh boy, he hated the French even more! Then again, he pretty much hated anything that wasn't in what he considered his ethnic group.
NotreDame
interesting. hating the french makes sense. The french were pretty brutal to the germans post-ww1. Have you read "When money dies"? (google it, there are free pdf's floating around.) it covers the hyperinflation that decimated the country and help set the stage for the nazis. also covers some of what the french did. Didacus
Will look it up. Oye... the French.... :french: Is it ok that I am a French-Canadien? (you know, the logic you expressed towards the French is pretty darn tooting close to the logic Hitler applied to the Jews). NotreDame
(you know, the logic you expressed towards the French is pretty darn tooting close to the logic Hitler applied to the Jews). Well, quite often political movements pick up on legitimate symptoms (ie. issues) while incorrectly identifying the actual underlying problems (eg. the occupy movement.) This may be what hitler is doing with the french. The French were jerks and they were overzealous in enforcing the (very very flawed) treaty of versaille - they even took military control over a border area of germany called the ruhr. Having not read mein kampf, i have no idea what he accuses them of. I think the jews got a lot of blame for the inflation because they had a fair number in government and in the federal bank during that time (some of those officials were hunted down and assassinated even after they were out of power.) I personally put most of the blame on woodrow wilson. We had no business or interest in wwi. If we didn't join there would have been a more equitable ending and balance of power over there and the resulting treaty would have been more fair and enforceable. Poor soul that you are... lol I have a lot of respect and admiration for the German people. I believe history (the popular history) has judged them unfairly. I sincerely hope you do not hold the above convictions too strongly. If you read Hitler's book you will gain a much better understanding of his hatred of Jews, although in my opinion unfounded there is a certain logic to it. He was not a moron not a crazed lunatic. In my reading thus far I can see how his writing to this day inspires hatred and seduces many in his line of thinking. As for his hatred of the French, thus far he feels no need to explain it. Its like he takes for granted that everyone knows inherently and by simple instinct the that French are obviously trash of the worse sort.
