I had to post this, though it's a video rather than a picture; it's the Pathe News film of the consecration of the abbey church at Downside Abbey, Somerset, England, by Cardinal Seredi, Prince Primate of Hungary, in 1935.

That was amazing! Adding it to my growing list of things I never thought I'd see in this life. I LOVE old footage.

Isn't it brilliant? Later on that day there were two Cardinals, three or four Archbishops and lots of Bishops and Abbots consecrating nineteen altars in the one church simultaneously!

and that's only 200 years since they moved to their current site; the present community was founded by Englishmen in France in 1606. Even then it was the continuation of the last community at Westminster, founded in the 960s AD!
