The modding has definitely been more hands on around here than it was in the past.

 

It has? :hmmm:  I'm new to Phatmass. I used to frequent other forums that were much more heavily moderated; if a post was slightly off-topic it vanished, and normal, non-troll people were frequently banned for life. I feel a lot safer spending time on Phatmass because it seems like one big, annoying, funny family.

if the moderating has been more hands on that in the past, I'm not aware of it (except for Vocation Station, which cma was brought in to more closely monitor that because it kept blowing up in ways that poisoned the atmosphere for religious discernment).  the whole point of us as mods is to do basically nothing unless absolutely necessary.

 

anyway this definitely became much more tense than I expected.  I must be living in a bubble, because as far as I know we have done barely anything compared to how active moderating was back when I was part of the bigger team, as it were, when me and L_D were the lazy mods who did nothing except for L_D going around undoing everyone's warnings :smokey:.  I guess the "more hands on" stuff has just been mods making comments that feel like nanny modding to people?

honestly I'll take this up in private discussion with the others because I was unaware there was a big nanny-state-mod-presence being felt and if that's really happening a lot, I think we should back off.  we're only meant to mod when absolutely necessary.

 

on the other hand cma's thing about the red mod tags seemed innocent and well intentioned, so while I don't think she should make comments like that and perhaps she is making them too often (it's basic moderator mission-creep, it will naturally happen when you have some kind of position or powers that you will gradually start finding ways they have to be used... totally understandable, has happened to every moderator team in the history of phatmass)... the jumping down her throat about it very much surprised me.  in any event, I'll try to get the phatmass gobmint off your backs and out of your pockets, and send you all some taco tax rebates.
