Who Has Seen Harry Potter And What Did You Think?

I just remembered. It had been so long since I read book 3, that I forgot so much. They left out the little things, like Christmas, Halloween, the 1st years, buying books, stupid fights, nonimportant classes, and most importantly like 3 potentially hilarious divination classes. Now I AM MAD.

He should have stuck to making movies like Y tu mama tambien.

i was totally thinking that, too (hoping they'd put out an extended version) while i was WATCHING the movie, this afternoon. i thought the movie was terrible, but mostly because the books are soo much better.

though i could go on and on, the thing that bothered me most was that hermione was this overly emotional (they don't explain her punching or running out of divination very well) screamy girly girl who everyone calls smart but who didn't do anything really smart in the movie. there was nothing to set hermione apart in the movie and in the book, she's the smart one, a very strong girl who has a backbone, though you can't tell until dangerous things happen and she steps up. now she's just the girl one. sigh. what a waste of $6.00...

What I wonder is how well someone who hasn't read the books would understand the movie.

They should try to make the movies as good as the books and as complete, otherwise, they are only a supplement to the book and they really inhibit your understanding of what's going on...

I'll help you, brother  Get the oil and wood and I'll tie up the little prick myself. I'll get Gandalf to help too :D

I'd explain why I totally dislike Harry Potter, but again, I'll probably just get flamed for it *shrugs*

They left out a few key aspects of the story in the movie. For one thing, they mentioned to Lupin before he turned into a werewolf that he forgot to take his potion. They never mention a potion anywhere else and it's not assumed that there is some kind of cure for the transformation. Also, the relationship between Lupin, Sirius Black, Pettigrew, and James Potter is never mentioned and why Snape was after Lupin and Sirius Black. All that the viewer of the movie could assume is that Snape was just suspicious.

Anyways, I thought the change of scenery and style of the films was a good route to go with the movie. The first two movies felt like I was watching school and some kids up to no good, though they were still good. This movie made me feel like these kids were a little more on there own and had a sense of justice and independence. They're grown up a little more and there is less reprimanding by the faculty shown.

Yeah, I got the feeling that they must've done a ton of editing -- probably for time. Though I wouldn't mind watching it if it were 3 hours long -- if the extra time allowed for explanation.

I agree, too about the missing explanation about Lupin, Sirius, James, and Peter. That info is so central to the book, that it's amazing it didn't get put into the film. What was the director thinking? They didn't explain how Lupin knew about the map, either.

yeah that's true. they never explain how lupin knows how to work the map and they don't explain that james turned into the same animal that was harry's patronus. they also forget to mention that their being animagus' was illegal, why the four of them were animagi (to help lupin), and they didn't even have harry receiving the note from sirius saying he can go to hogsmeade. and they wore too many 'muggle clothes' -- hardly ever in their robes. i don't know why that bothered me.

Yes! I know! It bothered me, too.

One more thought: it seemed as if there was too much emphasis on small details, and not enough care to make sure that important elements were dealt with.

If there really was a time issue, the whole time-travel scene could have been cut down, some of the artsy shots that didn't have much to do with the plot could have been scrapped (though I did think they were cool). Or just make it longer. It worked with Lord of the Rings, why not Harry Potter?
why do i care so much?
I have to ask myself the same question, too.

The general consensus over at movie data base is that the movie sucked. The list of everything people didn't like about the movie is a long one. :(
