arfink
Facebook is losing ground with younger people. Businesses and us old phogies are keeping it healthy. Teens started being weirded out that their grandmas could see their posts on their boyfriend's wall. Well, the stats don't necessarily show that either. Young people in the US almost universally have Facebook, so it's not a matter of how many of them have accounts and use them, but it's more about how they use it. Teenagers who want more anonymity (and thus the ability to more "safely" do irrevocably stupid things) tend to be switching to other applications. Tumblr continues to be very popular with the youngest teenage set, peaking around 14-16 years old. Kids with mobile phones switch applications so fast it's almost impossible to keep track of it all. One trend I have been seeing from working in social media is that many teenagers and even a good number of adults will use Facebook to keep track of large numbers of people they do not want to be closely associated with, while using multiple other social network accounts tailored for specific interests. So you see the rise of things like Grindr, Omeggle, Snapchat, Imgur, and so on, for various other kinds of interests.
arfink
I've also noticed something interesting about teenagers using social media. They tend to prefer to use phones because they are viewed as "more secure" than working on a PC. All that usually means in practice is that their parents can't as easily track what they are doing. This has actually led to some troubling things happening with mobile social media apps which are not as secure as many teenagers believe them to be. cartermia
We teens like instagram and snap-chat, no facebook for us. I don't have any social media besides this and G+.
ThereseMaria
and No one has told be yet how to delete my FB account. If you go onto the Facebook help section and type in "how to delete your account" then click on the heading "How Do I Permanently Delete My Account", there's a blue link (I think it's MAYBE called a hyperlink, I know nothing about computers... You know, those blue words that are underlined when you put your mouse over top of them?) that says "let us know". It's the last 3 words of the second paragraph. I assume that link allows you to notify administrators that you wish to delete your account...
Ice_nine
I'm still going strong, the only thing that annoys me is that my spotify account was linked to my facebook :( And I miss the news stories that were on my wall. Such is life.

Perhaps they will persecute to some degree over it, honestly this facebook gig is not done by nice people, the whole one night stand stuff and dark arts. SilentJoy
Facebook is simple to delete; you don't have to personally talk to any administrators and there is no "persecution." :rotfl2: I don't remember specific steps, but this is how I think it went for me: The site will suggest (not require!) that you backup all of your facebook information (photos, stories, etc.) so that it will be stored on your computer if you ever want to see any of your stuff again. You can skip this step if you don't want to save anything. Then facebook will ask you a few questions to be sure that you really want to go through with deleting the account. They'll probably send you an email that you will need to respond to before the deletion can continue. Then your account will be deactivated for 2 weeks; if you don't change your mind and re-activate it during that timeframe, it will finally be deleted.
