Q About Deception And Chatting

If I am online but I don't want to get into a long conversation even though I would like to chat with the person, but have a habit of getting too involved in conversations late at night, is it deceptive to let the person think he/she's missed me?  This assumes my online status is not necessarily visible and I am still online for a little longer.

Wait, like just ignoring their message? I don't see a problem in ignoring their message.  Could you change your online status to "busy" or just tell them "hey sorry I can't talk right now I've got something to do" or whatever?

If your online status isn't visible, just ignore them.  But lying and saying "oh you just missed me!" is a little deceptive.  You'd probably be better off being a little more confrontational and saying "hey I can't really chat right now" if they can still see your online activity.

One of my chat services is an online text program not connected to my phone. There is no online offline status short of my response.
