Not Shaving My Legs

Don't you wanna join a convent?  If so, I don't see not shaving as a big deal.

I never said it was a big deal. I just felt like saying it because it's odd how much FP's thread has been talked on. So I started a thread with a similar name on a similar topic that I thought was slightly intriguing for fun. It's interesting to see what people think. And I might have been feeling just a little bit random.

They shave their legs at convents, too.

Really? I didn't realize so many women refrain from shaving their legs.  I think I started shaving when I was 11 which I guess is pretty young.  I try to make myself shave at least once a week because I am lazy but I also hate the feeling of stubble so it's a bit of a catch-22 for me   :think2:

Late-bloomer. I started at nine...maybe at an early 10. I very rarely do it any more. I don't like the chilly dampish feel; I'm not a mushroom.

I really wish I'd never shaved my legs.  I started when I was 14 years old and I had baby fine blond hair on my legs.  I took my mom's razor and shaved them because I'd seen her do it and thought it looked nice.  Now I think it is a pain in the royal patootie to shave and I rarely do my legs.  As a result, though, they have wiry hair on them now but no one sees it since I usually wear long pants or skirts.  I hate paying money for razors.  I recently got an electric razor which I love and I've only used it on my legs once to see how well it would trim the hair (it did a great job).  I cannot, however, stand having underarm hair or stubble.

Since I usually wear pants or capris & the occasional long skirt, I rarely shave my legs til summer & swimsuit season.

And I refuse to wear pantyhose because I think it is evil.

Some do, yes. But when I've asked nuns I've gotten varied responses ranging from, "Why of course I still shave my legs!" to "Absolutely not! My habit covers my ankles and I wear knee-high socks/stockings under that, why on Earth would I waste my time shaving legs that nobody sees?"

I plan to take the latter approach when I get there. Waste.of.time.

Good. :smile3: I'm not waiting until I get there to take the latter approach.

I only started shaving my legs because a girl at school made a mean comment about my legs not being shaved in the changing rooms after PE. I care too much about what other people think.

I was very happy when my work required me to wear trousers so I don't have to bother.

Ha -- at the convent I was at (in Argentina) all of the postulants and sisters had shaved legs.  Talk about tricky -- we were only given 7 minutes for our shower.

Heh -- I waited until I really needed to shave, and dealt with getting yelled at for coming out late.  Otherwise I'd be getting yelled at on an almost daily basis.

But wait -- I *DID* get yelled at (ok better way of saying it -- "corrected") on an almost daily basis.

Well, as I'm sure you know... "Community life is hard"...

Actually, shaving doesn't change the way your hair is. Your hair is the way it is now simply because that's the way it was always going to be. You simply hadn't gone on far enough in puberty for your leg hair to get longer wiry hair.

I guess I'm weird, but I actually enjoyed shaving my legs. I'm torn between liking them the way they are now and excitement at the prospect of the next time I get to shave them.

FP is correct. The darkening and thickening of hair (not just on the legs, ahem) is the result of puberty...not shaving.

I'd already gone through puberty, though, when I shaved for the first time.  I'm not even sure if it was 14.  I think it was closer to 15.  I know it was right before high school (here, 9th grade was still middle school until I was in the 12th grade).  ;)
