ChristinaTherese
I don't shave my legs. I never have, I never intend to. I've considered shaving my armpits but a) I don't have much idea how and b) I'm afraid that I'd probably miss and cut myself. (Oh, and I'm female and a junior in college.) Just since there's so much interest in FP right now....

Kateri89
Really? I didn't realize so many women refrain from shaving their legs. I think I started shaving when I was 11 which I guess is pretty young. I try to make myself shave at least once a week because I am lazy but I also hate the feeling of stubble so it's a bit of a catch-22 for me :think2:
Anastasia13
If you shave your arm pits, lift the arm way up and it will help flatten your arm pit for shaving. Also, use shaving cream or shaving gel (or hair conditioner).
ChristinaTherese
Nobody ever told me it's a thing outright until I heard other girls in my church's youth group mentioning that they hadn't shaved their legs one day on a mission trip. I didn't even know anyone cared. I think it's a cultural thing in the US, and since my mom spent 20 years growing up in Argentina she doesn't care and never thought I should either. beatitude
I used to shave my legs and armpits, but stopped when I decided that a.) being from northern England, I could do with the extra insulation with which God has thoughtfully furnished us; and b.) I no longer wanted to do something that only began because I felt socially pressured into doing it. A school nurse took me to a hospital appointment when I was about fourteen, and en route, looking down at my legs, she made a face as though she had just swallowed vinegar and said, "You have got hairy legs," in the same way she might have told me that I had herpes. I said I thought they looked like normal legs and asked what was wrong with them. She said, "Well, shaving is just a girly thing to do." At the hospital, sitting on the neurologist's examining table while she tapped on my knees to test my reflexes, I found myself worrying what the neurologist thought of my leg hair. I still can't believe those comments got to me as much they did, or that it took me twelve years to decide that I wasn't going to play along with this fetish for ripping out body hair. If you're going to start messing with yours, don't get rid of it, dye it purple or coax it into dreadlocks or something. ;)
HisChildForever
I hate body hair so yeah. Well on myself anyway. I wouldn't be bothered by another woman's hairy legs lol.

I'm pretty sure Argentine women shave their legs. One thing that's different is that them and Brazilians will sometimes skip shaving above the knee and just bleach it. They also bleach forearm hair. Makes it softer and harder to see.
BG45
You! I just nearly had a heart attack thinking I'd deleted most of FP's topic and wondering how I did that! (Seriously I did think that. I just had to comment and tell y'all what a fright I had.) cmaD2006
Heh. I started shaving young ... because of a cast. Yeah. Full leg cast. The hair on one leg (the cast leg) was much more overgrown than the other leg, so I *had* to shave so that I wouldn't give the bullies at school another reason to bully me. (Yes -- I was bullied for being too nice, believe it or not the kids who I am now friends with on Facebook have admitted to that fact).

Well, now I remember that Mom has said something about wax when she was young, so I guess she just stopped caring. At any rate, I don't but am somewhat intrigued that it's a cultural norm. (Oh, and I was homeschooled. That really does help not know about cultural norms and not care either.)

Don't you wanna join a convent? If so, I don't see not shaving as a big deal.
Slappo
I will fully admit that I have never shaved my legs and never intend to either. It feels so good to be able to be so open about this! ;)
